Hi Joe,<br/>Enabran asked some time ago if it is possible to retrieve the hits counter. I tried to install a stable version of Extension:HitCounters on the French wiki. It seems to work. You'll need to run an <tt>maintenance/update.php</tt> after installing the extension with the following in the <tt>LocalSettings.php</tt> file

SkinTemplate.php
wfLoadExtension( 'HitCounters' );

Nice job on the image tabs. If you can provide a diff between the MediaWiki 1.10 version of SkinTemplate.php and your modified version, I may be able to add this feature in MediaWiki 1.11 (I have commit access to the MediaWiki SVN). I may also be able to find a cleaner way of translating Bild: back to Image: (which should be possible). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 16:24, 27 August 2007 (CDT)
It should keep the old values. As you wish, but I think there will be a happy, happy editor ;-) Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 13:57, 3 June 2020 (PDT)
: Actually, all the work I did is between lines 801 and 889 of the file. I did not modify anything else outside that. Of course, any ways you can find to improve the addition would be great -- and even more so if you can get something like this committed in the next MediaWiki release. ;-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki &mdash; New 17:15, 27 August 2007 (CDT)
: :o Commit Access? I been trying to get that for a while. Shane (T - C - E) 00:48, 28 August 2007 (CDT)
::Whether you get it depends on what you want it for. Before summer break I've been helping out Yuri Astrakhan with his bot API (I intend to continue doing so now that school has started again), and at a certain point in time he suggested I start a new branch (called apiedit) for state-changing actions in the API and he requested commit access for me. Anyway, I'll look at ll. 801-889 some day this week and see if I can improve anything. When I'm done improving and all, I'll commit it to the trunk (mentioning your name, of course). Note, though, that it's possible some top guy at MediaWiki (like Rob Church, who is essentially in command of the MediaWiki code) decides this addition doesn't belong in the trunk (should be an extension or something like that) and takes it out again. Whatever happens, I'll keep you updated on the fate of your writing. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 09:16, 28 August 2007 (CDT)

I've had a quick look at your code, and I think I can generalize it and make it easily configurable for other wikis. However, I have one question:
: I will look into it! Thanks! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 11:20, 4 June 2020 (PDT)
if ( !$istalk || $wgOut->showNewSectionLink() ) {
        if ( $isimage == NS_IMAGE || $wgOut->showNewSectionLink() ) {
This if construct looks very weird to me. Firstly, all talk pages show new section links, so the first if() doesn't exclude any pages at all. The second if() restricts the tabs to only those pages that are in the Image: namespace OR have a new section link (the + next to the edit tab) on them (i.e. all talk pages). In some weird way these tabs don't appear on all talk pages, so I'm missing something here. Could you explain why you wrote this if construct the way you wrote it and didn't just use
if($this->mTitle->getNamespace() == NS_IMAGE) {
? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:20, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
: That was a remnant of a test I was conducting... but I'm not sure now what exactly I was testing, only that something was being tested. (I think I was concerned about the tabs being repeated on the talk page as well, but seeing as the second if deals with that as well, it is, as you say, redundant.) You can remove it.
: Coincidentally, I was thinking... is there a way to convert the links section on the image description page so that it can read the imagelinks table off the other databases? Ultimately, what I want is to show where the image is used across all wikis, regardless of what wiki the user is currently on. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki &mdash; New 11:46, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
::The best way to do that is probably to write a simple PHP script that queries the imagelinks tables in all DBs and prints a (linked) list of titles that use a certain image. A link to this PHP script could then be added to the image tagging template(s). I would advise against trying to do this inside the MediaWiki code.
::Meanwhile, I've rewritten your code to be much shorter and much easier to adapt to someone else's needs:
/**
  * Interwiki tabs above Image: pages
  * Original code by Joe Beaudoin Jr. from www.battlestarwiki.org (joe(AT)frakmedia(DOT)net)
  * Modified for more generic usage by Roan Kattouw (AKA Catrope) (roan(DOT)kattouw(AT)home(DOT)nl)
  * If you want to use this, you need to set $wgEnableInterwikiImageTabs to true in LocalSettings.php
  */
global $wgEnableInterwikiImageTabs, $wgInterwikiImageTabs;
if($wgEnableInterwikiImageTabs && $this->mTitle->getNamespace() == NS_IMAGE)
{
        $i = 0;
foreach($wgInterwikiImageTabs as $prefix => $caption)
{
// Go to prefix:Image:title. Image: is automatically translated if necessary.
$titleObj = Title::newFromText($prefix . ":Image:" . $this->mTitle->getText());
if($titleObj->getFullURL() != $this->mTitle->getFullURL()) // Don't link to ourselves
$content_actions['interwikitab-'.$i++] = array(
'class' => false,
'text' => $caption,
'href' => $titleObj->getFullURL()
);
}
}
::The two $wg* variables need to be set in LocalSettings.php, like so:
$wgEnableInterwikiImageTabs = true;
$wgInterwikiImageTabs = array('en' => 'English', 'de' => 'Deutsch', 'media' => 'Media repository');
::The text before the <code>=></code> sign is the interwiki prefix to link to, the text after it is the tab caption. The code also checks whether one of the tabs links to the page currently being viewed, and hides it if so. In other words, the "Deutsch" tab won't show up when viewing an image on de:. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:02, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
::I'll file an enhancement request at MediaZilla tomorrow, so the MediaWiki community can decide whether this belongs in the trunk. It's possible that it has to go in an extension instead, in which case you and I will be able to call ourselves extension maintainers ;) Whatever happens, I'll keep you posted. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:02, 30 August 2007 (CDT)

TOS/G80 unproduced scripts
Greetings fellow Colonial!

I'm interested in assisting in regards to the summary pages of unproduced scripts of the 1978 series and its follow-up in 1980, but there are a few problems in this regard. First, it appears the wiki hasn't been updated in quite some time regarding these scripts (so I'm unsure if this is an active project or not). Second, the link to the Battlestar Pegasus page is dead. I have a few scripts printed out from the '78 series a few years ago, but I'd need access to the other scripts (especially The Beta Pirates, which I've wanted to read for many yahrens). Is this wiki still active, and can I assist? Ninth Lord of Kobol

: Hello! Yes, the wiki is still somewhat active. I mostly maintain the English one at this point, with assistance of two other admins: User:Enabran of the German language Wiki and User:LIMAFOX76 of the French language Wiki.

: As to the scripts, I have digitized PDF copies of the ones I've collected over the yahrens. == Battlestar Wiki's new skin ==

Hi Joe,<br/>I hope you're well. I discovered the new skin you implanted for BW. Is that normal if everything is still in a white background even if you modified the css page to adapt? Thanks for your answer. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 06:24, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

: Howdy! Things are OK -- I hope things are good for you! For the background, it is adaptable, and there are three options if you click on the wheel/gear icon on the upper menu bar: Auto, Light and Dark. You might be on "light" or "auto," so if you click on Dark you should get the "darker" red theme.

: I'm trying to figure out what to do for the "light" theme (so I've left it alone for now), and might try something that invokes the cream/light brown paperwork from the series.

WiiFrakr had some fantastic and hilarious content back in the day. Sadly this was lost in time. Is there a way to restore those pages back if a backup is available? Maybe instead of a separate sub-wiki, those pages can live under a namespace on the English Wiki.

:Awesome Corey! I expect there to be discontinuities as production didn't keep tabs on these types of things, particularly as the show went on. But if you have the CSS of that light theme, maybe we can use the same colours in the current Citizen based theme? -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 20:28, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
For the "light" version, I was aiming towards the cream color, to mimic the paperwork in the series. We had something like that for the "Case Orange" update blog back in the day. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 03:45, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

SSL certificates

edit

Hi Joe,
Hope you're fine. There is an issue with the SSL certificates on all Battlestar wikis and Buck Wiki. It says that they are not valid anymore and block the page's loading. Is it possible to update the certificates so no warning message appears ? Thank you very much. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 10:23, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

This is remedied now. Thank you! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:58, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joe,
The SSL certificates have expired again, preventing images from loading on all pages. Sorry to bring bad news as a greeting! I really love this site, so, thank you for creating and maintaining it. I hope you are doing well! --Allatariel (talk) 15:48, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Greetings! They've just been renewed, and I'm working on some server updates to boot. Hope you are doing well too, and thank you for your support! :-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:43, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
FYI. The mobile version is showing some insecure content warnings. -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 20:35, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Caprica fonts on German site

edit

Hi Joe,
I hope you're fine. Is it possible please to add the two "Caprica" fonts on the German wiki root directory? It is already configured to have them, so it will appears as soon you import them. Thanks a lot! Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 20:52, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Will do! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 02:25, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Old WikiFrakr content and other language wikis

edit

WiiFrakr had some fantastic and hilarious content back in the day. Sadly this was lost in time. Is there a way to restore those pages back if a backup is available? Maybe instead of a separate sub-wiki, those pages can live under a namespace on the English Wiki. Similarly, the other language wikis which existed are lost. Is it possible to restore them too? -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 20:39, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I believe a backup is available, but I haven't gotten to it, as I haven't prioritized it. As to the other language wikis, I don't believe there was much in the way of content, beyond the German and French versions that were restored. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 03:42, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

New server

edit

Hi Joe, I hope you're fine. Just to tell you that managed to upgrade my personal server to a stronger UC (Dell Precision Tower 7910 with 2 Xeon CPUs). The server is now running under Ubuntu. Cheers! -- LIMAFOX76 (talk) 19:27, 26 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

PawPatroler

edit

Hi. I saw you posted on his talk page last month and I just wanted to tell you he has been permabanned from dozens of wikis for disruptive editing and emailing users about wiki bans. More information can be found in one wiki he was permabanned from. I’d just banhammer him. 70.54.235.122 17:38, 22 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Appreciate your reaching out to me on this. Along with fellow admins from other language versions, we've found much the same regarding bans elsewhere. That said, we'll refrain from the "banhammer" as there have no disruptive edits here as of yet, beyond the initial message. Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 13:44, 23 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Quorum images and other information.

edit

Hi,

Just added images from "Fragged" concerning Quorum delegates, at least the ones that correspond to those from "Colonial Day". And expanded on Oswyn Eriku's page, something I picked up concerning Unnamed Delegate #3 and also something to possibly update the List of pilots page. - Corey "Shadow" Danian (talk) 07:47, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Awesome Corey! I expect there to be discontinuities as production didn't keep tabs on these types of things, particularly as the show went on. We should note any contradictions, particularly as background or bit actors tend to play different characters throughout the run of the show. (Not to mention the same people tend to be reused throughout the prequels.) Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 16:03, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
