Tylinium is a rare metal used in heavy construction, and can be fashioned to be either opaque or transparent.
In the early yahren of the exodus, Rising Star's maitre d' compares the scarcity of ambrosa to that of tylinium (TOS: "The Long Patrol").
Transparent Tylinium
Transparent tylinium is "virtually indestructible" material formed out of tylinium, used in the construction of Galactica's celestial chambers, suggesting that the material has existed for millennia (TOS: "The Hand of God").
