Arco Tyler is the ailing father of Arvin Tyler, captain of Orion, and the only surviving parent that Arvin has.

Tyler is hospitalized at the Aquaria City Extended Care Medical Center on Aquaria just prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, and is visited by his son mere hours before Day Zero. In a discussion with Helen, one of Tyler's nurses, Arvin discovers that his father condition has deteriorated further, as Tyler has shown signs of dementia and loss of memory, as he failed to understand that his wife had long since died. During his visit, Arvin promises to find his father a better doctor, but this does not come to pass (Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts 1).

Arvin Tyler is the captain of Orion, who owns the ship with his ex-wife, Sora Tyler.

Prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Tyler and his crew's occupation was in black market smuggling and theft, which allows Tyler to help support his ailing father, Arco Tyler, who is hospitalized in the Aquaria City Extended Care Medical Center. Further, despite Tyler separating from his wife, who is also aboard ship, he engages in intimate relations with another crew member, Teresa Manning.

Immediately preceding the Fall, Tyler visits his father for the last time, intending on moving him to a better medical center. In order to do this, he and his partner, Ronnie Dyson steal a medical supply truck with contents that they believe to be highly valuable on the black market. During this heist, Dyson claims that they take the supplies for the Children of Erebus terrorist group, not knowing that the passengers that they've taken on at Aquaria are members of this terrorist cell—until one of them points a gun in his face (Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts 1).

Sora Tyler is the ex-wife of Arvin Tyler and co-owner of Orion.

Despite being separated, Tyler retains Arvin's family name and accepts Arvin's position as captain of the ship. Like all the crew, she is aware with Arvin's sexual relationship with Teresa Manning, and appears to be willing to spoil Arvin's recreational activities by interrupting Arvin's and Manning's sexual encounters.

Prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Arvin offers her the opportunity to accompany him to see Arco Tyler, but she refuses on the grounds that Arco would not see her as Arvin's wife. Later, she pilots the shuttle, Sword, off Aquaria to Orion despite being intercepted by Ghost Squadron—who break off their challenge due to the commencement of the Cylons offensive against the Twelve Colonies (Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts 1).
