Committal[edit]

Well, DrWho42 is going down the "ask forgiveness and not permission" route in using the template. It's been active on several pages without any issue I know of, so should we greenlight this now? (The Doctor's working faster than any bot right now). --Spencerian 14:34, 27 May 2007 (CDT)

I personally haven't noticed any issues with this template in Firefox 2.0. Is anyone with IE, Safari, Opera, Konqueror, etc. experiencing any issues? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:44, 27 May 2007 (CDT)
Works good in Safari. I'd added it to quite a few pages a while ago, and I think it's good to go for everywhere. --BklynBruzer 18:31, 27 May 2007 (CDT)
It doesn't render well in IE 6... Unsurprisingly, much to my chagrin... Freakin' party pooper. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 21:18, 27 May 2007 (CDT)
How about IE7? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 01:38, 28 May 2007 (CDT)
Haven't loaded that on my XP test PC yet... -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 03:07, 28 May 2007 (CDT)
I have IE 7. The logo is nearly center over the Bird. It appears fine. --Spencerian 07:37, 28 May 2007 (CDT)

So no TOS to be tagged on those articles? They're still much more related to the Battlestar Galactica than RDM, so I don't see the tag hurting the article (i.e. for Classic Battlestar Galactica 1). DrWho42 12:50, 28 May 2007 (CDT)

It's something to discuss. When we developed the separate continuity policy we didn't factor 1980 in as we consider it canonical. But, it's not TOS, either, per se. The comics and books might be fine with the special flag, but we should get a bit more input from others, so hold off on using the tag on sep-con TOS material for the moment. --Spencerian 14:59, 28 May 2007 (CDT)

Skin issues, etc.[edit]

I see this template is in use on Adama (TOS) ... just an FYI that I see the image underneath the main logo, rather than over it. This is on Internet Explorer 6 (which I have to use at work) ... I'll try it with Firefox when I get home. JubalHarshaw 15:19, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

What style are you using, Jubal? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:23, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
Sorry, Joe, you caught me leaving work. I'm using bsgbook. JubalHarshaw 20:51, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
Oh.... I was having the same issue as JH, but I use the Monobook skin. It seems to work ok with the BSGbook skin. (This is one of the reasons why I run the "alternate" skin... to check for bugs.) --Steelviper 15:30, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
Ok, try it now with the bsgmonobook skin -- I forgot to update the z-index value in the "p-logo" class on that skin. (Note you will likely have to do a hard refresh...) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:35, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
Much better. Silly z-axis. 3D web... what are we coming to? --Steelviper 15:48, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
Very nice. Me likey. -BklynBruzer 19:53, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

On my Firefox it works fine. OTW 15:21, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

Working fine for me on Firefox as well. JubalHarshaw 20:51, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

Works on Safari. --BklynBruzer 21:31, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

NOT showing in IE6 on my works laptop. But it was working on IE7 and FF on my home computer. I'm guessing we need to add something to the IEfixes.css files? --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:43, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

never cause it will get overwriten during updates. bsgbook.css and bsgmonobook.css maybe. ;-) Shane (T - C - E) 06:27, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
I was always told to modify the fixes css if there are ever any problems in IE versions. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 07:33, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
oh. ok. send code. i update. or better yet. contact joe ask him for password. Shane (T - C - E) 07:35, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

I've been working on adding this to TOS pages. Got every episode and I think most of the main characters. --BklynBruzer 07:13, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

You might have jumped the gun a little bit as others were still discussing the particulars, but in practice it looks very good, and the brighter badge right over the Bird fits well. If there is any issue, I figure we can disable the template, and it will be ignored on any page. Nice work. I'd rather have some boldness in ventures that keep some love on TOS articles (thus the purpose of the project). -- Spencerian 07:42, 18 April 2007 (CDT) (Talk - Contribs - WonderNumbers)
Sorry on jumping the gun. I just counted and I've done 100 TOS pages out of 185. --BklynBruzer 08:04, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Uh... better count again:
TOS ‎(638 members)
There are 185 TOS pages on the first page of the category. Heck, there are 152 members of Characters (TOS) alone. That's a massive project, and I wasn't (and am still not) sure if it is quite yet ready for going live yet... --Steelviper 08:22, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
I don't think its a good idea to have begun rolling this out to be honest. Its still in testing stages right now. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:36, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
When it comes to going live we could get a bot to add the template to all pages in the TOS category. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:36, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Oh, uh, I didn't realize that that was only the 1st page. Well, uh, I still did 100! And I think the fact that it works so well on the pages I put it on is good support for it going live. --BklynBruzer 08:38, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
I really like it and think it looks really cool, I just think its best to wait until we get it working properly before putting it on all the pages. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:41, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
If you (BklynBruzer) are running for the Mopper of the Week award, I think you've got it by now, but I agree it's probably better to do the rest by bot. Shane, is such a thing possible? (i.e. add "{{TOS}}" to all pages in Category:TOS?) --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:45, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
I'm just trying to do my part, but I fully support the bot measure. My clicking finger is getting tired. --BklynBruzer 08:49, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
The problem with the way people have been adding {{TOS}} in the articles so far is that its resulting in two line breaks at the bottom of the page before the categories box. To make it work more smoothly the bot should add it next to the cat bit as follows [[Category:TOS]]{{TOS}}. Example with whitespace / Example without. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:55, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Ah, what I've been doing (As evidenced on the Aurora page) is just pasting it in at the bottom. --BklynBruzer 09:00, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

Good points, all. Let's stop manual entries of this template for now, assess any problems, then roll out any remaining changes by bot once things are ready (that includes me, too). We don't need to break pages with our enthusiasm. -- Spencerian 09:08, 18 April 2007 (CDT) (Talk - Contribs - WonderNumbers)

Minor manipulation of the template has removed one of the blank linespaces. Perhaps that will suffice? --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 09:09, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Catrope removed the other. I think we're good now. --BklynBruzer 10:48, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Cool --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 11:45, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
I say fire up the bots and roll it out.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by BklynBruzer (talk • contribs).
Yes.. the bot can do that. :-) Shane (T - C - E) 17:04, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
I know you are keen to roll this out but its not ready yet and requires more testing before going ahead with anything. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 17:05, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Yes, let's not jump the gun. There's no rush here. We still need to work out a final version of the image for this template, as well as work out the IE6 fix. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:09, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Well, I think the 100+ pages I added it to where it is working perfectly seems to indicate that it's been tested, and the IE6 fix should be done, yes. As for the image, I think the current one is good. --BklynBruzer 17:11, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
But it doesn't work perfectly let and has not yet been tested in other browsers such as Opera either. As the majority of the visitors use IE I think its only fair that it works for them before rolling out across the board. As for the image, I only whipped it up quickly and I don't know what the consensus on it is yet. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 17:16, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
You oughta read my comment better - I'm saying that IE6 should be fixed and we should get consensus on the image first. --BklynBruzer 17:19, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
I did read your comment. You claimed that on the pages its been added to its working "perfectly" when its clearly not. That is why it has not yet been put forward to the bots "to do" list just yet. There is still work to be done on several css files and possibly to the image first. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 17:32, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

Regarding the image... I rather like it. However, it needs to be big enough to eclipse the current logo, and have wording on it. If the wording could be circular, much like the current logo we have, in the same typeface. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:28, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

The problem arises with the slight variations in how browsers parse the css meaning that the position in IE is slightly different to that of Firefox etc. If you wanted something to completely overlap the current logo then it would have to be much bigger and would also have to link back to the home page as normal rather than linking to the TOS page --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 17:32, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, it'd have to be bigger. Also, modifying the template to link back to the main page isn't an issue. It's just creating the actual logo and getting the images to work properly on IE6, and doing testing on Opera. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:45, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

Location is off[edit]

Possibly due to the recent layout changes, the icon is now displayed too low and a bit too far to the right. See for example Adama (TOS). -- Serenity 11:06, 8 March 2008 (CST)

Yeah, I'll fix that in a jiffy. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 11:14, 8 March 2008 (CST)
Ok, I've fixed it. Let me know how it looks. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 11:27, 8 March 2008 (CST)
Mhh, weird. Still the same here. I'm using Firefox 2 and did a proper refresh of the page. In IE7 it's also off, but to the top and slightly to the right O_o. I also just saw it depends on the page. On many pages it's just too low, while x-coordinates are fine. -- Serenity 11:35, 8 March 2008 (CST)
It's off for me now with Bsgbook. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:33, 9 March 2008 (CDT)
Frak, I kinda figured that would happen. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 18:38, 9 March 2008 (CDT)

The weirdness continues: the emblem is now off in all three skins, and is off by a different margin in each skin: battlestar, bsgbook, bsgmonobook (fixed by Shane just now). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 10:41, 11 March 2008 (CDT)

Fixed! :) Shane (T - C - E) 10:52, 11 March 2008 (CDT)
For me, it's still off to the right in bsgbook... --BklynBruzer 10:56, 13 March 2008 (CDT)
Press Ctrl+F5 --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 12:34, 13 March 2008 (CDT)
Still off to the side. (fwiw, I'm on Safari) --BklynBruzer 17:16, 15 March 2008 (CDT)

This template is going to be the end of me....[edit]

Now I have to figure out a way for this to work in the Widescreen template! :S Shane (T - C - E) 15:29, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
