Battlestar Wiki talk:Cast and Crew

Discussion page of Battlestar Wiki:Cast and Crew

I must say you did a very good job of organizing this, Steelviper: the portals were so confusing I didn't know where to start, but this one page is really nice. --The Merovingian (C - E) 15:10, 28 March 2006 (CST)

Thanks! Hopefully I don't become so good at coming up with lists of things for others to work on that I forget to actually do some work myself. I think Joe actually had the idea for this project a while back.
Do you think you might be able to recruit some of the skiffy's to take a look at some of these? They seem intimidated to deal with the canon stuff (judging by some of the posts about why they don't contribute), but maybe we can get their toes wet with some of the cast & crew info. After that they might see that they CAN contribute to the RDM stuff after all (knowing that the other Battle Wikipedians, like yourself, will be there to help them comply with necessary standards & conventions). --Steelviper 15:27, 28 March 2006 (CST)
SV, can you elaborate on SciFi-ers being "intimidated to deal with the canon stuff"? --April Arcus 18:32, 28 March 2006 (CST)
"I use it extensively as a reference. I have never edited. I was not at all secure with doing so. I regret not knowing that it was expected." --Mazzy
"i would join the wiki, but i dont trust myself with something like that, i do have extensive knowledge of BSG but im sure nowhere in comparison, but I have loved and trusted the wiki ever since I found it, and I agree with twhat the merv is saying about some of those articles." --Thechief88
from this thread
And maybe it's just not being familiar with the Wiki-style interface. I'm just surprised there's not more overlap in the demographics. --Steelviper 19:23, 28 March 2006 (CST)

An Issue of Inclusion[edit]

Here's an issue I'm seeing when I'm viewing the articles on cast and crew... We have articles on actors and actresses who have only appeared once in the series, for instance Dana Delany who played Sesha Abinell. Question is, since we've never hased this out, do we follow Memory Alpha and have articles on every single cast and crew member credited for the series or do we establish criteria for inclusion depending on show appearances? If the latter, then what? Thoughts? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:53, 8 September 2006 (CDT)

Cast Bio question[edit]

All of the cast biographies I have read, are worded like they have been created by the person's publicist. Is it really "Wiki" like to use the adjectives I see there?? They appear to not be the NPOV I am used to on other Wiki's N7bsn 11:59, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

Hi N7bsn. The cast bios should be informative, but if you see language that appears not to be neutral, feel free to change it. Yes, we aren't as "anal" about certain levels of NPOV like other wikis since we are a wiki that chronicles a fictitious work, but we do have NPOV requirements. Take a look at the likely greeting on your talk page for links that detail some of these policies. Many contributors may write bios that are derived from publicity bios, so that is the likely issue you are seeing. Keep in mind that we use last names in all articles by convention, never first names unless two or more people with the same last name is involved, per BW:SAC. --Spencerian 12:37, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
