Welcome to Battlestar Wiki!

Welcome to the Wiki, Starkiller. Feel free to tell us about yourself on your user page. Before you get started on other edits, please read the Battlestar Wiki:Standards and Conventions, which details the policies we use in editing pages (this differs from many other wikis in consistent use of phrasing, abbreviations, format, and the like).

Also, if you have any questions or suggestions you wish to offer, please feel free to do so either on your user talk page, the Wikipedian Quorum or Administrators' noticeboard. Remember to sign your posts on any talk pages using four tildes (~~~~)! We look forward to your contributions to the community! ! --FrankieG 11:00, 26 August 2006 (CDT)

Template:Title

Hi, whats the purpose of this template? --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 11:28, 26 August 2006 (CDT)

The purpose of this template is I want to make it more like Wookieepedia, and I want to put a "title override" for articles with wrong titles due to technical limitations, like R & D TV.--Starkiller 23:35, 26 August 2006 (CDT)
Wouldn't match the article name for reference, so the template has been removed. --Shane (T - C - E) 23:41, 26 August 2006 (CDT)

R&D

I don't think we need the skits in two places. --Shane (T - C - E) 02:43, 27 August 2006 (CDT)

I've found these R&D skits here. Should I post them on the R&D TV article? --Starkiller 03:00, 27 August 2006 (CDT)
Well we actually do list the skits in RDTV plus on the episode page of the episode in which they appear. They aren't random; I mean they're linked to specific episodes. Kind of like listing the couch gag for a Simpsons episode. --The Merovingian (C - E) 08:51, 27 August 2006 (CDT)

Verb Tense

See the standards & coventions regarding verb tense. Any of the episodic content should be in the present tense. In the case of TOS, only pre-"Saga of a Star World" events should be in the past tense. If you have any questions about this convetion, please discuss it on the standards and conventions page. --Steelviper 10:12, 10 September 2006 (CDT)

As SV said. I know that Wookieepedia does things as if matters are historical, but we want to write as if events are aways happening, just as when you turn on an episode and everything is happening for the first time. This is a writing convention that we and Wikipedia share. --Spencerian 12:10, 11 September 2006 (CDT)

Move permissions

By the way, I've noticed your recent edits and decided to give you move permissions. ;-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 10:11, 22 December 2007 (CST)

Translation template

How does this template actually help with the translation of an article? Except for the translators, no one needs to know that an article is being translated. So I don't really see that it's needed and you seem to be the only one who is really using it. But in any case, you should remove them once you're done and not leave them up for months. -- Serenity 10:27, 15 March 2008 (CDT)

Because I would like you to set up a Malay wiki. Battlestar Galactica currently airs in Malaysia on 8TV right now. Starkiller 00:11, 16 March 2008 (CDT)
I know, but that doesn't explain what that template is for. After all it says "pages being translated". Not ones that were translated. It would make far more sense to put such a template on the translated page than the source article to mark them. Someone created it, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea. -- Serenity 06:47, 16 March 2008 (CDT)
The template is used to encourage people into the Battlestar Wiki:Translation Project. Starkiller 08:19, 16 March 2008 (CDT)

This spoiler

I know it's big. I know our policy. It's a tag huge. I know. Lets just keep it off the character pages. Shane (talk) 02:23, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Episode articles

There is no point in creating these episode articles. We only created articles to untitled episodes when there was some actual information about them. Otherwise they can be created one by one as information becomes available. At least don't link to them anywhere, as there is no actual content. -- Serenity 08:17, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since production on the last 10 Season 4 episodes began following the end of the WGA strike in February 2008, I've created an episode article on episode 12 when Ron D. Moore makes his directorial debut. Starkiller 08:21, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's fine. I'm talking about 4x13 to 4x15, for which there's no information. Those articles are just skeletons. It might save a bit of work later on, but they shouldn't be linked to in guides and lists as that implies that there is real content on the pages. -- Serenity 08:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Glad to thank me, but don't delete these articles which are skeletons. Starkiller 08:28, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that would be pointless as we need them later on. I just think that we shouldn't lead people to basically empty articles. When people see that there is a link to "415" or whatever, most will probably think that there is some information about it only to find that there isn't. That's why I removed the link to 413 in the 412 article. When we have some content that link can be added, and the episode can be added to the episode list and the list template. -- Serenity 08:31, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
But I'd like to keep them and need them as more info on these episodes are available, the 4x13 to 4x20 has been completed, the two episodes comprises of Razor. Starkiller 08:35, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Translations

I thought Malay had its own wiki now? Speaking of which, you'll also have to translate various templates to Malay. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 12:34, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I'll do that. Starkiller 12:50, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, please don't start new subpages like Natalie/ms:Natalie, but instead copy Natalie to and translate it there. You might wanna ask Shane to make you a sysop on the Malay wiki as well. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 12:58, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah. I will change your sttatus to Sysop. :) Congrats! Shane (talk) 13:04, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! But, where do I start? Starkiller 18:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
You'll have to go create an account on the Malay Battlestar Wiki by going . Once you've done that, let us know so that we can upgrade your account to sysop status. Then we can start transferring articles from the English wiki that have already been translated over to the Malay wiiki. We'll be here to help you do that. :) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 18:20, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've just created an account on the Malay Battlestar Wiki. I'd like to let you know so that you can upgrade my account to sysop status, and then you can start transferring articles from the English wiki that have already been translated over to the Malay wiki. Interwiki Bot Status

I have the interwiki bot running weekly on the Malay wiki on every Tuesday at 6am. If you make the interwiki links here, it will not work. They have to be on the malay wiki. The english wiki is where all the languages link to, however I run the bot on the EN once a month to find any errors which would remove all interwiki links if there was any problems. Shane (talk) 15:43, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good, how am I going to ever move my already translated articles to my Malay wiki? Starkiller 18:54, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Edit the translated article, copy its contents and recreate it at the Malay wiki. Once you've had them all, ask a sysop (not me, I'll be away for the weekend) to delete them. I saw Joe transwiki some stuff today, so there's not much left. The best strategy to find these pages is probably to search for "ms" here. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 19:03, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
All the Malay translated pages are on the ... Obviously, I also took the liberty of cleaning up links and moving pages to strip the "Page Name/ms:" from the article names. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 19:28, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Character biography issue

I've been noticing some of your edits to articles, particularly those concerning the characters, tend to merely regurgitate story elements verbatim that the characters are involved with. For instance, I am prompted by these edits made early this morning on Samuel Anders and Galen Tryol, where they merely retell the story, when such a thing it is not necessary. While these edits were standardized by other contributors, I just want to make sure that you understood the reasons for the standardizations.

The fact of the matter is that character biographies typically do not go into such detail about story elements, and are meant to go into the character's feelings and motivations due to the actions they take. Regurgitating a plot element, such as the fact that the Fantastic Four met after Anders's return isn't necessary; however, his feelings and remorse for having shot Gaeta are important, as is the fact that he didn't have the courage to meet with Gaeta face to face in the sickbay. The "play-by-plays" for the episodes do belong in the episode guides, but they don't belong in the character bios... which is why we do the in-line referencing that links directly to the episodes, so people can drill down deeper into understanding the intricate mechanics of (and behind) the moment.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know! :D -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 17:57, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Moreover, please don't just copy paste content from other pages all the time. It's not wrong per se and I did it yesterday as well, but you need to take some care to adjust the content appropriately. Your edits are often out of context (referring to content in the article you copied from), and miss import introductions or transitions. Some references may also need to be adjusted so the POV fits to the new article. All in all, it's more important to have good content than just content for its own sake. -- Serenity 06:49, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
