:Hi! We don't want to delete your account! We just need to rename it. Could you give us another name you'd like to use? We just want to avoid confusion and keep clear of conflicts of interest with other fans. (It was a nice idea for a name, though.) --Spencerian 22:21, 26 November 2007 (CST)

Season Data Boxes
I was just thinking, it would be really cool if we had a special data box for each season, similar to the data boxes we have for each episode.  We can put in the number of episodes, the release data, dvd information, a season chronology for quick access to other seasons, and even things like SciFi Pulse links to teaser trailers.  We could have links to the List of Podcasts page with # signs for each season, as well as the season R&D skit pages, and if we're really ambitious we can create staff pages that list all the various staff for each season and link it there.  It could also be a way to bring the links to the episode guides (the list guide and the summary guide) to the top.  We could have a spot for promotional materials, such as the webisodes and minisodes, and of course, the trailers.
One reason I say this is because page views for Season 3 have topped 124,000!  Page views for Season 4 have already reached 45,000.  To me, this seems to necessitate a data box for easy interactive access.  --OrionFour 01:32, 16 December 2007 (CST)

This noticeboard is a location to discuss and coordinate administrative tasks for the Battlestar Wiki.

It is our hope that this place can serve as a location for administrators to coordinate their efforts on the maintenance tasks of the Wiki (it's not ALL fun and games), as well as a spot for our contributors to be able to bring things to the attention of the admins if something needs to be done. Need a protected page edited? An article or picture deleted? Admins will watchlist this page so that your request won't get lost in the shuffle.

Current Administrators

Senior Chiefs

Senior chiefs are, in Wikipedia's terminology, bureaucrats who have the ability to make other users into chiefs. They also have the ability to check user and other advance functions not under the purview of the chiefs. Currently senior chiefs are:

Chiefs

Chiefs are administrators who have access to move, delete and restore pages as well as blocking malicious users. The current chiefs are:

New users

I'm thinking, a lot of users join up, and then the majority never edit anything. Are we sure we're not scaring people off by very quick "Welcome to the Battlestar Wiki!" message everyone gets? Perhaps we could trial a week or two where we don't use this and see what happens, or reconsider its content? OTW 17:49, 23 November 2007 (CST)

A greeting from Spencerian (albeit much briefer) when I first started was one of the things that kept me around. I'd be surprised if it made much of an impact either way, but I'd be willing to try an experiment. However, getting the message out to everybody not to greet newcomers might be awkward, and if you didn't get the word out you'd still have people getting greeted. --Steelviper 20:02, 23 November 2007 (CST)
We can try to create alternate welcome messages, see which of them is more effective. Or we can try short, informative messages in lieu of our normal one. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 22:22, 23 November 2007 (CST)
Perhaps an adjustment to the message would be appropriate. Something like...
"Thanks for creating an account on the Battlestar Wiki! With a user account, you can, if you wish, now create or edit almost all of the articles on the wiki. You aren't obligated to edit or comment...if you liked to "lurk" in the background before, you can still do so. However, with a user account, Battlestar Wiki works better when you do correct, add new information, vote on matters, and generally speak out. The community, in return, can speak back to you."
We can amend the existing greeting around it. I think the current greeting is good in the sense that it leaves little out as far as the essential information needed to contribute to this wiki (as opposed to others). But brevity should always be considered. Thoughts? --Spencerian 00:56, 24 November 2007 (CST)
Maybe we need to ease up a bit one the rules. Right now it's like "Please don't do this and that and especially not this. Oh and read our rules about this and that, which is very important". That might scare some people. Usually we make immediate style edits anyways.
We could create one help page with further links for this (basically what's in the message now) and then have just one link to "Tips for starting" in the welcome text. --Serenity 07:23, 24 November 2007 (CST)
Yes. The current message spawned over time because our help pages weren't as developed (or existed). Now they are. We can put in essential links and keep it shorter. I'll try my hand at one here shortly for review here for everyone based on our current help and tutorial pages. One or two reminders should remain in the greeting, however. --Spencerian 07:58, 24 November 2007 (CST)

Variant #1

Here's a version that I've worked on:

Greetings, [username], and welcome to Battlestar Wiki! I hope you enjoy your stay with us and am looking forward to your contributions to the Wiki!
As you may already know, Battlestar Wiki covers all the Battlestar Galactica series from past to present, in addition to authorized merchandise. Presently, we don't cover fan fiction, but our sister-site, Battlestar Pegasus (which will soon open) shall do so. We're also not really a discussion site, but we do have an ever growing Battlestar Forum where people can discuss the various shows and non-BSG topics as well!
To get started on the wiki, we suggest that you check out our tutorial, experiment in the sandbox (a test editing area for those learning wiki code), and review some of our basic policies.
Of course, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, you are more than welcome to bring them up at the Chiefs' noticeboard (which is frequented by the administrators of the Wiki) and at the Galactipedian's Quorum (which is the hub for contributors, who are called "Galactipedians").
Furthermore, if you don't wish to see the ads, then please consider upgrading your account to a paid membership, which costs only $10 USD a year and helps support the wiki financially.
Thank you for joining us! Hope to see you soon!

We hope you enjoy your stay with us and look forward to your contributions
This is ambiguous. Who's looking forward to the newbie's contributions? "We" or "you"? It can be interpreted either way. The sentence should be disambiguated by adding "we": "and we look forward to your contributions".
</nitpicking> Looking good, definitely less scary than the current template. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:47, 26 November 2007 (CST)
Ok, I've reworded it. ;-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 08:57, 26 November 2007 (CST)
I for one love this new greeting. Although I did like the part in the old greeting that asked them to start a user page. So is this complete? Can we start using it now? --OrionFour 19:33, 26 November 2007 (CST)
The new greeting's quite less bloated. This Concision Fairy approves. I recommend, however, to change the following as such: "To get started on the wiki, we suggest that you check out our tutorial, experiment in the sandbox (a test editing area for those learning wiki code), and review some of our basic policies (which have important differences from other SF wikis)." --Spencerian 21:47, 26 November 2007 (CST)
Awesome. Added that. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 00:33, 27 November 2007 (CST)

The greeting is has replaced the old one. Feel free to use it! ;-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 00:33, 27 November 2007 (CST)

Battlestar Wiki on Wikipedia

I just wanted to point out, that as of only four days ago, Battlestar Wiki now has a place on Wikipedia, up there with the ranks of Memory Alpha and Wookieepedia! I added our great name to the official Wikipedia List of wikis just now. --OrionFour 02:00, 25 November 2007 (CST)

Good times. The article needs some work, though, from the look of it. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 02:09, 25 November 2007 (CST)
Yeah it's definitely in its infancy. According the box on the right, your last name is Beaudion. --OrionFour 02:27, 25 November 2007 (CST)
ROFL! It could be worse, I suppose. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 02:32, 25 November 2007 (CST)
That must be in error on the about page. :O Shane (T - C - E) 21:30, 26 November 2007 (CST)
There was an article before, but their policies on what Wikipedia considered "important" back then caused its deletion. Maybe we're important enough for the article to stay now. (/sarcasm). --Spencerian 21:49, 26 November 2007 (CST)

Wikipedia Template?

I've noticed for various television show episodes (the one example that I could find off-hand was the Template:TardisIndexFile for The TARDIS Index File), they include a template/link over to their corresponding wiki. Could anything for this Wiki prove to be plusgood? DrWho42 22:28, 26 November 2007 (CST)

I don't see why not. :) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 00:41, 27 November 2007 (CST)
Template:Battlestar Wiki is now up and ever ready. :) DrWho42 15:51, 15 December 2007 (CST)
