Florida

I lived in Orlando during the big 3 that was an ugly couple months without electricity or water. (Hurricane Charlie, Frances and Jeanne)

Since I consider Galactica to be a geek culture related entertainment and you live in Florida have you heard of the Dice Tower convention in Kissimmee? Its a board game convention that last 5 days.

SS —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Navaji (talk • contribs).

Hello SS! I haven't heard of it. Also, I no longer live in Florida, having moved to California some time ago. Still, send me whatever information you have on the Dice Tower Convention, and I'll take a look! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:14, 6 July 2019 (PDT)

Skin job

With the wiki online we really need to get it back looking its best. The 'Timeless' theme is a little scruffy in places compared to Monobook with inconsistent use of fonts and category placements. How do we go about editing this theme to bring back the classic BSwiki Burgundy and Gold look and feel? Should be usilise modern webfont code to bring familiar and relevant fonts like Battlestar, Spaceage/Galactiguise, Bank Gothic, Eurostile etc to things like headers and subheadings

Also what is going to be done about the battlestarwikiclone? I gather there were some discussions about shutting it down and redirecting back to this wiki but its still very much online and clowding google search results.

Lastly I've been in discussions with the .wiki registrar but that conversation is best to be done in private.

1. Agreed. It's going to take time for that, so if you have any mockup ideas you want to throw together in PhotoShop, I'd definitely like to see 'em!
2. I've been talking to Shane @ Wikiclone, but he dropped off back in late May. I've been trying to reestablish communication with him to see what we can do to either obtain the domain name or update the Wikiclone to point to the resurrected Wiki.
3. Ping me on the .wiki thing. Not sure if that's even worth obtaining, as I feel it's just vanity -- but if it's a no-brainer price, then that might change my mind. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 20:49, 16 July 2019 (PDT)
CloneShane is still active on Twitter do you want me to give him a poke? As for skins I've just been looking at the skin on the french wiki that LIMAFOX76 has put together here http://fr.battlestarwiki.ddns.net/index.php/Accueil (p.s. lets get the FR subdomain back online so he can lead on that project here rather than spinning off onto his own server, see conversation below). Can we use that design here with the Vector skin and use a mediawiki extension to chance to Timeless on mobile devices using the MobileFrontend ext? --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 06:38, 18 July 2019 (PDT)
I don't know about what others think, but I loved the old skin, especially the light version one. I think that was based on a skin designed by Paul Gu. -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 23:57, 28 September 2019 (PDT)
Hi Joe,
I don't know if you want me to apply the French wiki's skin on the English one, but if you want so, you should give me the "MediaWiki namespace" changes rights. It's up to you (or a Senior Chief). Thanks a lot. Best Regards! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 12:40, 30 September 2019 (PDT)

Interwiki to "my" French Battlestar Wiki

Hi Joe,
Hope you're well. I would like to suggest you the following. As I try to maintain, improve and update the French Battlestar wiki on my personal server, would it be possible to update your "fr" interwiki url link like the following:

http://fr.battlestarwiki.ddns.net/index.php/$1

Two reasons for that:

  • First, the French wiki is configured as I desire (Semantic MediaWiki + other stuff) so I do not have to ask you some extra extensions on the main site.
  • Second, I give up my semantic English version and update my "en" interwiki link to BW (not a lot of time to spend on it unfortunately).

Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 00:38, 17 July 2019 (PDT)

There used to be a French wiki installed on this website before it went dark for a year or two. Perhaps you'd like to take ownership of that here if we brought it back online? At the moment by spinning off onto your own website/personal server and using our branding you are causing a potential audience confusion. We want to bring the full Battlestar Wiki family back online here on this domain and it looks like you have the passion to lead the FR project here.
Secondly you've done a nice colour scheme of Vector and keeping the angled corners which is nice. The original BSwiki themes that I co-developed are no longer compatible with the latest versions of MediaWiki and we are about to embark on developing new skins but in the mean time could we use what you've made? If you want to email me any skin code please do so at matt@simsmail.co.uk and we can have a better chat --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 06:32, 18 July 2019 (PDT)
Matt, see my answer here. And there is no issue at all to use what I have done on my personal server to improve BW's style of course! Cheers!--LIMAFOX76 (talk) 08:33, 18 July 2019 (PDT)

Work on Battlestar Wiki Skin

Hi Joe,
I started to work on the skin using a Timeless shape with BW original colors. It seems that I cannot use CSS3 to make cut borders but you can see a first glimpse on my French website. What do you think? You can tell me. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 09:46, 23 July 2019 (PDT)

It looks good so far. I have some more thoughts on fonts but I will email you later as they require attachments which cannot be posted here. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 04:07, 26 July 2019 (PDT)
I like it. I think the yellow and orange box borders could be more muted, perhaps different color (darker) reds? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:48, 3 August 2019 (PDT)
I worked on the main borders and the titles (darker yellow). I will check for the cut border (it's an image, need to edit it). Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 00:44, 4 August 2019 (PDT)
I just modified the cut border color. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 00:55, 4 August 2019 (PDT)
One change again on dark red for the cut border color. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 10:08, 4 August 2019 (PDT)

German Battlestar Wiki issues

Links from english to german sites are working but no links from german sites to english sites are working.-- Enabran (talk) 02:40, 4 August 2019 (PDT)

I put back this conversation here (you were on an archive). Hi Enabran,
The German interwiki is not configured correctly. It points to the former address (with a wiki inside it. It has to be changed by an "Interwiki" group member (not you nor me for now). Just as a reminder, in the German LocalSettings.php the following line has to be changed from (that's for you Joe)
$wgLanguageCode = "en";

to

$wgLanguageCode = "de";

Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 03:03, 4 August 2019 (PDT)

Handled the LanguageCode. Am handling the English interwiki link fixes now... :) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 08:46, 4 August 2019 (PDT)
Thank you Limafox and Joe :-) -- Enabran (talk) 09:31, 4 August 2019 (PDT)

There are problems with our templates. But I do not have the skills to solve them. When you look at a german ship, the page does not look like the english ship.

http://de.battlestarwiki.org/Kampfstern,_Valkyrie-Typ http://en.battlestarwiki.org/Valkyrie_type_battlestar

I think the error must be here, but I have no clue where: http://de.battlestarwiki.org/Vorlage:Schiffsdaten

Hi Enabran,
It's not your template by itself, but the previous Battlestar-made skin used built-in classes (like "infobox"). The MediaWiki skins don't have it by itself and put a "default" class template. You have to create those classes inside the MediaWiki:Common.css and MediaWiki:Timeless.css pages. For that, you have to declare yourself Interface Administrator with your User rights page. You can copy-paste the English Timeless.css page on your German page, and see the results. It should be a first test before a definitive skin for the wiki (working on it). Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 06:14, 1 September 2019 (PDT)
I got it. Thank you!

And where can I include the Colonial Logo to the left of every side or change the left bar of the site?

Unfortunately you cannot do anything for that, it's a file declared in the Wiki's LocalSettings.php file. Only a server admin (like Joe) can modify it. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 09:42, 1 September 2019 (PDT)
Well... Joe please do that for me :-)
Still waiting for it Enabran (talk) 10:21, 4 September 2019 (PDT)

Thanks Enabran (talk) 09:05, 6 September 2019 (PDT)

Sorry to waste your time again. I was trying to create a new template called Castdaten. I started with Tony Swartz Something went wrong. Now everytime I want to go to the english version of an Actor it redirects me to "Template:MONTHNAME" And I do not know what to do to show mw the month, or Nationality Enabran (talk) 06:13, 29 September 2019 (PDT)

Hi Enabran, the issue is fixed, you had the EN interwiki link outside the <noinclude></noinclude>. brackets in two templates. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 06:50, 29 September 2019 (PDT)
Your're the best! Thank you for your quick fix Enabran (talk) 08:22, 29 September 2019 (PDT)

French Battlestar Wiki

Hi Joe,
Do you have any plan about the French Battlestar Wiki to "really" come back to life? If you want to, you can directly write to my personal email address, it didn't change. Thank you very much. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 12:21, 11 August 2019 (PDT)

Yes, I do! I've just been traveling, so I haven't had the ability to carve time out for it. I'll reach out to you via email for further details, as I would need the database files and all that from your setup. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:21, 11 August 2019 (PDT)
It may be possible to have the original wiki's content back + what I've done if you have a backup made before October 31, 2013. It was just before the first French wiki crash (when all data but 15 pages were lost) and then find a way to give you the Mediawiki files and the LocalSettings.php file (+ logo and fonts). --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 05:31, 14 August 2019 (PDT)
Hi Joe, until you find a way and time to put back the French wiki on the main domain, could you please change the fr interwiki link on the English and German wiki to the following :
http://fr.battlestarwiki.ddns.net/wiki/$1
It will direct it to my personal server. I added the German link, and the English one is already active for a while now. Thank you very much! Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 13:25, 26 August 2019 (PDT)
Hi Joe, sorry to bother you about the previous demand, but I think it will give some time about the migration of the French Battlestar Wiki and make you doing it more comfortably. It should take you only a few minutes to do it. Thank you very much. My best regards. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 09:55, 8 September 2019 (PDT)
Hi Joe,
Hope you're well, I know you're very busy right now and I'm really, really sorry to bother you again. It's just to lighten your burden about the French wiki. It will allow me to make the interwiki links work between the English, German and French Battlestar Wikis so I can populate the links when the pages are created. You won't have to worry about the design and the MediaWiki update for the French one, and when (and only when) you are ready, we can prepare to transfer the wiki on the main domain. Thank you very much. My best regards. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 22:31, 26 September 2019 (PDT)
No need to apologize! I've updated the interwiki link. Also, I've given you admin privileges to the English wiki to assist as needed, as a small token of appreciation for the work you've done to date (and beyond)! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:17, 28 September 2019 (PDT)
Thanks a lot Joe. I have nine hours of time difference with you. Please don't forget to do the same for the German wiki (interwiki link). Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 21:56, 28 September 2019 (PDT)

Battlestar Wiki - other Stuff

Character Data a.s.o

Would it be possible, to add a function, that lets the "Matrix" add another Series-icon to the top of the infobox, when the Actor played in more than one Series? For example Richard Hatch. Now he has the TOS icon, but he should have also the RDM-Icon. Same for Crewmembers, that worked in more than one Series. Maybe it is the "series 2" thing, but if yes -> it is broken. -- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Enabran (talk • contribs).

I'll take a look and see what the issue is! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:24, 3 October 2019 (PDT)
Thank you and good luck ;-) Enabran (talk) 13:14, 4 October 2019 (PDT)
Actually, in looking at the code, it appears that it was coded to only show one emblem (defined by the "series" parameter) and not multiples (i.e. the "series2" parameter). So... the "series2" thing is more for the automatic categorization only, but I suppose that can be extended to add in multiple emblems, too. That just needs to be coded in.
In other words, it was never a feature to begin with. But it can be added in. I'll fiddle with it and maybe tighten the code while I'm at it. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 18:42, 4 October 2019 (PDT)
I think I was able to accomplish what you're looking for. If that works for you, it can easily be deployed on DE. Check it out on the Richard Hatch article. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:31, 4 October 2019 (PDT)
Not so easy for me - I made a mistake somewhere. Now the english Richard Hatch is redirecting to the template instead the german page. same goes for the german page Enabran (talk) 01:53, 5 October 2019 (PDT)
Hi, it seems you fixed the template redirect issue (need to refresh the browser's buffer). I removed the blanks inside the German and English Series icon template to fix the position issues. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 05:17, 5 October 2019 (PDT)
"my" 1980 icon doesn't work. When you look at the german Lorne Greene Page, just the TOS icon is visible. And how can I add the english link to the template, without doing a mess? Enabran (talk) 10:29, 5 October 2019 (PDT)
Your "Serie2" field was wrong, in your template, the field is called "Serie 2" with a space. I fixed it inside the article page. Regarding the interwiki inside a template, be sure to put the interwiki link inside the <noinclude>[[de:Pagename]]</noinclude> parser tag, not outside. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 11:09, 5 October 2019 (PDT)
Thank you for fixing it. Enabran (talk) 11:27, 5 October 2019 (PDT)
One other thing to think about: There are some actors playing in more than 2 series (RDM, BAC and CAP). Would it be hard to do something like Series 3 and adding all 3 icons to the top? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Enabran (talk • contribs).
That shouldn't be difficult. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 00:52, 7 October 2019 (PDT)
Done on the German template. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 04:28, 7 October 2019 (PDT)
