Colonial religion is centred on the Lords of Kobol. While their exact nature is unclear, they have much that is in common with the gods of the ancient Greek Pantheon of Olympus in both names and functions.
So far within the new Battlestar Galactica, a total of six Lords of Kobol have been identified:
- Zeus, said to be the father of the gods - Tom Zarek has twice referred to Commander Adama as "Zeus" (Bastille Day, The Farm)
- Apollo, his son, said to be the god of the hunt and of healing (thus matching his Olympian equivalent)
- Artemis
- Aphrodite
- Athena - comitted suicide "out of despair over the Exodus of the thirteen tribes" (Home, Part II). Her tomb holds a map to Earth, which can be revealed using the Arrow of Apollo (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I)
- Hera
While no specific attributes have as yet been assigned to either Artemis or Aphrodite, it is interesting to note that in Flesh and Bone, Kara Thrace prays to them on behalf of Leoben Conoy using figurines that bear a similarity to classic representations of both.
