Satan is a black horse owned by John Steadman and kept at Steadman Acres. The horse is mentally disturbed and resists any attempt for a rider to stay on him for long. As this is the case, Steadman offers a bet of $1,000 U.S. dollars for anyone who can ride the horse without being thrown off.
Maze has had an opportunity to take this offer, despite his concerns about medical bills for injuries that may result. He is thrown clear of the horse, landing neatly into a water trough.
Dillon is able to correct Satan's alpha waves using signals from their wrist computron, thus being able to ride the horse. In doing so, the bet is won and Satan is gifted to Gloria Alonzo for use at the Alonzo Farm in lieu of the money prize, much to Steadman's chagrin (1980: "Space Croppers").
