A Somnian host body is an artificial, bi-pedaled construct capable of supporting a Somnian consciousness.
A Somnian-possessed Dr. Wilker creates a host body through means unexplained. As Wilker's synapses break down and nerve tissues begin to die, the Somnian possessing Wilker transferrs itself into a host body.
The host body, roughly twice as tall as an adult human, is resistant to laser weapons. Aiding in the Somnians goals, the host body contains a detachable pod consisting of thousands of tachites, parasites that allow a Somnian to control other life forms, namely humans (Prison of Souls, Part 2).
