Talk:Fall of the Twelve Colonies/Archive 1

Discussion page of Fall of the Twelve Colonies/Archive 1

Sweet page, Ricimer. Elaborated just a bit with point-by-point data on the formation of the new fleet and government elements. Spencerian 10:33, 18 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Suggested merge with Cylon Attack & Negotiator's edits

I believe that the content of this article should be moved to the article Cylon Attack over a redirect. Additionally, there are portions of Negotiator's contributions to that article (which Ricimer reverted) which could be incorporated into the body of the combined text.

How say you all? --April Arcus 17:10, 27 August 2005 (EDT)

I say not until the flesh is hacked from my bones. Negotiator's additions weren't that good, and based largely on speculation and unconfirmed musings; that is why I deleted them (they can be reincorporated into "Cylon AttacK" in some altered form.
This page should exist because, under the scheme that I have devised, the "Cylon Attack" is synonymous with the "Second Cylon War" (no one actuall uses the later term, though technically it is correct, so I just link them all to "Cylon Attack").
Under this scheme, the "Fall of the Twelve Colonies" was the battle that began the war referred to as the "Cylon Attack". They aren't the same thing and should not be merged. "Cylon Attack" should have material added to it that discusses "why" the Cylons attacked the Colonies (Negotiator's stuff should go there), but this page deals with the specific military engagements of the battle. This page should stay as it was. ---Ricimer, 27 Aug, 2005
If we need an article about the 2nd cylon war, couldn't we create one and call it Second Cylon War or something? An attack is an attack, not a war. Alternately, if you're terrifically attatched to "Fall of the Twelve Colonies", we could have Cylon Attack redirect here. My main point is that having two articles on the same thing is redundant and confusing.
As for Negotiator's edits, they are speculative and not completely accurate, but touch on subjects worthy of mention. I think they could be summarized for inclusion into this article. --April Arcus 18:40, 27 August 2005 (EDT)
My feeling on the battle pages is that they dispense with the character narratives and deal only with battle gains, losses, and tactics. Makes it easy to discern what resources were used, gained, or lost after an episode or series of episodes without having to glean it from an episode page. I think the Cylon Attack page contents could be merged into this page, not the reverse (with Cylon Attack as the redirect). The episode page for the mini-series could have the full rundown in a nutshell, thus the need of this page for specifics. Spencerian 22:59, 27 August 2005 (EDT)
I agree in principle, but my zeal for concision leads me to prefer the title "Cylon Attack" over "Fall of the Twelve Colonies" by a large margin. This article would form the bulk of the text in any case; it's a much better document than the currently flimsy Cylon Attack. --April Arcus 23:12, 27 August 2005 (EDT)

Second Cylon War

I am trying to turn the Second Cylon War page into a comprehensive page of the military history of the new series. I would like to model it on the War pages on Wikipedia, which give an info box and broad description of the war and give links throughout as to the various battles and events of the war. I suspect there may be some debate as to when the Second Cylon War actually ends (as in was it after the fall of the Twelve Colonies, or is it still going on. Baltar's surrender means that either a Third Cylon War started at some point, or the Second Cylon War never ended). I would like to see how people feel about this transformation, as the last article I wrote, Fall of New Caprica, has its fair share of detractors and I would like the go-ahead before I begin writing it (the first time I tried to write it, my work was deleted pretty quickly). Copying my comments from Talk:Second Cylon War
I'm not sure there's much of a case to be made that the various skirmishes engaged in throughout the series constitute a war. Roslin states as early as the miniseries that "the war is over. we lost." and I'm inclined to agree with her. Ricimer, your opinion on this would be especially welcome. --April Arcus 18:36, 20 March 2006 (CST)

Aftermath

This section started unofficially with Battle of Ragnar Anchorage and followed up with Skirmish over the Red Moon with an "Impact" section, and Battle for the Tylium Asteroid with both an "Aftermath" and "Impact" section. These section only separate non-action discussion after the action with hardly any new material. Should I take this to Think Tank before proceeding or just have a general discussion here. --FrankieG 22:43, 19 December 2007 (CST)

Discussion about what exactly? Do have proper impact/aftermath sections of all battles? That would be good. Adds some analysis and context beyond simple retelling.
But while technically the entire exodus is an aftermath of the attack on the Colonies, there isn't much point in repeating that again here. --Serenity 03:23, 20 December 2007 (CST)
