Laea was one of the four human survivors living on Research Station Omega at the time of its rediscovery by the Colonial Fleet. Born on the station, she grew up alongside Jon and Vin, whom she considered her brothers, and was raised in part by the station's Cylon "companions," including a Nanny Model named Delta.

Possessing a curious and rebellious spirit, Laea often felt constrained by the routines of the station and the paternalistic attitudes of Dr. Villem Fuest and her "brothers." This led her to explore the station's hidden passages and monitor its secrets. After witnessing the station's violent confrontation with a scavenger party and the appearance of the Cylon Dreadnaught Invincible, Laea undertook a secret mission to find the lone survivor, Tom Zarek.

Her investigation led her to team up with Colonial pilots Tara "Athena" Tanada and Nik "Skeeter" Mino, and together they uncovered a Cylon presence in the wilderness outside the station. After being rescued from a Cylon attack, Laea returned to the Colonies aboard Galactica, where she began to acclimate to a society she had never known.
