The Farm

Overview

Kara Thrace is shot and wakes up in a remote hospital facility on Caprica, and learns that her friendly doctor has his own plans for her future.

Summary

On Caprica

• Having reached a base where some survivors of the Cylon attack on the planet have been hiding out, Starbuck, Helo, and two other civilians who are fighting the Cylons (Anders and Sue-Shaun, who were already introduced in the last episode) devise a plan to escape from Caprica, by hijacking one of the Cylon's heavy raider aircraft, located at a airstrip nearby
• Starbuck informs the other members of the team that she and Helo will fit as many survivors as possible onto the craft, and when they fly back to the Galactica, they will dispatch a rescue mission to pick up the rest of them
• As the team is about to assault the airstrip, they are shot at, and Starbuck suffers a gunshot wound that grazes off her head and gets lodged in her stomach, which causes her to go into unconsiousness
• Kara wakes up in a hospital, and is being attended to by a doctor named Simon, who tells her he managed to remove the bullet that was in her chest, and that he tells her that she was the only person brought into the hospital
• Starbuck spends the next few days conversing with Simon, who tells her that women who can bear children are a rare thing now that the Cylons destroyed most of Caprica, and that she should consider giving birth to a child
• When Kara wakes up the next day, she discovers a large scar across her abdomen, and although Simon tells her the scar was a result of an operation he did to stop some bleeding, Kara doesn't believe him
• Kara fakes being unconsious, and when Simon leaves, Kara follows him, and she discovers that he is having a conversation with a copy of Number Six, and that he has removed her ovaries
• Starbuck escapes from the hospital, being pursued by Cylon Centurions and the Number Six model, but she is soon rescued by Helo and the rest of the resistance, who take her back to their encampment
• Starbuck relates her experiences in the hospital to the rest of the resistance members, and Sharon Valerii then goes on to explain that the Cylons have a genetic flaw which does not allow them to reproduce biologically, and they tried to implant women with human/Cylon embryos, but when that failed, they captured thousands of women, and are holding them in "farms", where they breed new models
• Helo, Sharon, and Starbuck manage to capture the Cylon heavy raider with the help of the resistance, and Starbuck promises them that they will come back to rescue them

Notes

• A third of the fleet has left with Roslin for Kobol.
• Cally had been put in the brig for 30 days for discharging a firearm without orders. Tyrol actually tried to help get her out immediately, and Adama treated her lightly.
• Galactica-Boomer's body is now in the morge.
• Number Six mentioned that "procreation is one of God's commandements" in the first episode, "33".
• The Galactica-Boomer was serving aboard the Galactica for two years, which means the Cylons had begun infiltrating Colonial society from at least that long ago.
• Starbuck was the victim of frequent physical abuse as a child; she's suffered many bone fractures in childhood, and all of her fingers have been broken at some point.
• It has clearly been established that there are at least 5 remaining Raptors aboard the Galactica.
