Fun for the Summer '07 Hiatus

I wrote this whole project while Totally Wired on Coffee, so please correct and update. I am pleased by the bases I managed to cover on derivation and copyright, but adjust and augment if there's anything wrong. I'll add in a list of items and a verification process like OSDP later, if someone else doesn't get into it. -- Spencerian 10:52, 24 April 2007 (CDT) (Talk - Contrib Skillz - Edit Skillz)

I'll look over the project text in a moment. For my part, I've ordered the Zarek comics and have scoured e-bay to purchase some of the old BSG Marvel comics. Should be interesting. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 16:05, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
I'm having fun tearing through the RDM comics. Lots of pleasantly contradictory things there. -- Spencerian 16:09, 24 April 2007 (CDT) (Talk - Contrib Skillz - Edit Skillz)
I don't like the main BSG comics. The art is bad and the story doesn't seem to have the voice of the show. But the Zarek comics are actually pretty good IMO. --Serenity 16:17, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, I ran through one of the new BSG comics at a local bookstore and saw these things... From what I've been reading here on the wiki, it seems to me that these comics pull out many sci-fi clichés. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 16:27, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, the RDM comics are full of bad comic writing/art that reminds me of the Star Trek comics in the 1980s, where Enterprise shows up sometimes with a third nacelle or something. Overall, the Returners storyline is interesting and the antebellum Centurions are fun to see. The character voices are improving a bit each issue. -- Spencerian 17:20, 24 April 2007 (CDT) (Talk - Contrib Skillz - Edit Skillz)
We also might want to ditch the (RDM) in the categories and just do Comics (RDM) and that would be easier that having to add the "{{separate continuity}}" tag to each article. Include [[Category:Comics]] as a top level category in BW:SAC Shane (T - C - E) 21:23, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
Could also bring in Portal:Comics Shane (T - C - E) 21:55, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
Agree with the new category scheme, in addition to the portal. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:34, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

Couple comments...

Addressing the issue of creating a separate continuity article on well-established characters (i.e. TOS's Commander Adama)... I think that it would be in our best interest to actually document all characters in a separate continuity, not just Darrin Dualla, et al. However, as Spencerian noted, it isn't all that wise to create an article on every permutation of Adama -- whether it be the Realm Press, Marvel or Dynamite. Rather, we can create a main article, such as Adama (comics) with sections covering every Adama permutation and so forth. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 16:28, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

For some reason, that problem came in my head. I recommend, for now, not making sep/con character bios and see if problems occur in organization or confusion. So far, albeit with limited amounts of stuff to document, there's not been a problem. There are quasi-continuity cases that could support the idea: Adama (1980) and Boomer (1980). -- Spencerian 17:16, 24 April 2007 (CDT) (Talk - Contrib Skillz - Edit Skillz)
To be honest, I think we'll need this, particularly in light of the Zarek comics, since those comics aren't strictly canon, but do gain a lot more insight into the character. (Also, as I recall, Richard Hatch was promoting this comic line as well.) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:58, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
Perhaps it's practical just for the special break-outs of characters like Zarek, although not for Adama necessarily. It'll be a judgment call I guess based on the significant background changes and differences. --Spencerian 21:10, 24 April 2007 (CDT)(Talk - Contrib Skillz - Edit Skillz)
Sounds like a plan, at least. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:34, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

Images

We may also want to scan in images of the characters, tech, and other items from the comics to illustrate the pages, as well. (No doubt would this entail the creation of new image tags and the like, however.) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:55, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

As someone who has no access to ther comics, pictures in some of the smaller articles about ships, people and stuff would be nice to see. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:03, 25 April 2007 (CDT)
Since the product is a publication, we have to be careful not to host too many such images (and the artwork is rather unremarkable, actually) to prevent copyright issues, but we should be able to use a panel per article, I would think, for remarkable items, like the antebellum Centurions, or the Phaeton 5. --Spencerian 15:36, 25 April 2007 (CDT)
Well, that's more or less what I had in mind. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:30, 25 April 2007 (CDT)
