Nowiki... I mean it![edit]
The Nowiki seems to be ignored (and the four ~'s become the timestamp, but not linked). I went to add the nowiki to the template, but it was already there. Perhaps there is some limitation that the template creates? --Steelviper 21:27, 13 February 2006 (EST)
- I think I fixed it. (I just placed HTML comment syntax in the appropriate areas, so that the MediaWiki syntax processor thingamajig doesn't convert the four tildes in that example. -- Joe Beaudoin 21:56, 13 February 2006 (EST)
- Oooh! I don't have to cut-and-paste anymore. Neato! Gives me more time to hand out flyers for the daily specials and pick the gum out of the shopping carts... --Spencerian 22:34, 13 February 2006 (EST)
- At least you don't have to mop... speaking of which, cleanup needed in aisle 5. ;-) -- Joe Beaudoin 22:50, 13 February 2006 (EST)
Is this template working? I've haven't had success in using it. I just add the template in. Something I'm doing wrong? We have a lot of newbies come in this weekend. --Spencerian 10:06, 19 February 2006 (EST)
Hello? Is this thing on? --Spencerian 09:45, 20 February 2006 (EST)
It seems like it works ok... (Although one might want to do a substitute (subst:) for the real deal.
Welcome to Battlestar Wiki![edit]
Greetings, Spencerian, and welcome to Battlestar Wiki! I'm pleased to tell you that you have full editing privileges on every wiki in the Battlestar Wiki network. I hope you enjoy your stay with us and am looking forward to your contributions to the Wiki! Why not begin by telling us a bit about yourself on your own user page?
As you may already know, Battlestar Wiki covers all the Battlestar Galactica series from past to present, in addition to authorized merchandise and separate continuity materials such as comics and tie-in novels. We do not cover fan fiction. We're also not a discussion site, although we do have an ever-growing Facebook presence where people can discuss the various shows and non-BSG topics as well!
To get started on the wiki, we suggest that you check out our tutorial, experiment in the sandbox (a test editing area for those learning wiki code), and review some of our basic policies (which have important differences from other SF wikis). For some general questions and answers about the navigation and operation of the Wiki, check out the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
Of course, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, you are more than welcome to bring them up at the Chiefs' noticeboard (which is frequented by the administrators of the Wiki) and at the Galactipedians' Quorum (which is the hub for contributors, who are called "Galactipedians").
Furthermore, if you don't wish to see the ads, then please consider upgrading your account to a paid membership, which costs only $10 USD a year and helps support the wiki financially. We think this is very cool, and we hope you do as well!
Thank you for joining us! Hope to see you soon! -- ~~~~

New "Welcome" Idea[edit]
Welcome to the Wiki, {{{1}}}. Feel free to tell us about yourself on [[User:{{{1}}}|your user page]]. Before you get started on other edits, please read the Standards and Conventions, which details the policies we use in editing pages (this differs from many other wikis in its particular use of verb tense, abbreviations, formatting, and the like). If you need help in learning how to use the MediaWiki tools supported here, you can check out the tutorial and the wiki markup code pages for assistance.
Please read the articles "What is Battlestar Wiki" and "What Battlestar Wiki is Not." This important information details what contributions are acceptable in this encyclopedia.
We encourage you to participate in any projects on Battlestar Wiki, which work to enhance a particular subject or extension of the wiki. These include the Original Series Article Development Project and several language translations of Battlestar Wiki. If you have a new idea for a new project, visit the Think Tank, where we hash out large-scale ideas before implementing them.
Also, if you have any questions or suggestions you wish to offer, please feel free to do so either on an article's talk page that's relevant to the subject, the Wikipedian Quorum or the Administrators' noticeboard. Remember to sign your posts on any talk pages using four tildes (~~~~)!
We look forward to your contributions to the community!

- I've cleaned up the language and elaborated on some projects. The welcome needed a bit of enhancement; good idea. --Spencerian 11:40, 31 August 2006 (CDT)
- I like it. Potentially I'd like to see more of this type of content moved towards the greeting and away from the "Recent Changes" banner. The RC banner is getting rather long, and already takes up a substantial portion of my screen area (even on a 1280x1024 res). --Steelviper 11:47, 31 August 2006 (CDT)
