A Little Help?
This article could use a soundbite of that main theme music as used in "Final Cut". --Spencerian 13:32, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
- A friend of mine has the OST, I'll ask him to send it to me and I'll upload it. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 13:41, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
- Done --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:23, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
A question Serenity raised in his self-deleted reply: is this legal? Does including a 4-minute piece from the OST qualify as fair use? Whom of us is qualified to make that assessment? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:37, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
- Well, I'm not sure and it's probably shady, but do we really need the whole 4 minutes? Just the start of the track would be fine for illustration purposes. --Serenity 14:50, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
- I agree on the legality; shouldn't have the whole thing. Just the first 15-20 seconds. Using the "Final Cut" version would be more germane than the TOS original soundtrack, if one can get it. --Spencerian 17:38, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
- The one on the soundtrack is an extended version of the "Final Cut" music. It has the slow beginning, but then launches into a longer version of the TOS theme. Personally I prefer the TNS style TOS music - which sounds really great - to the overblown orchestra though. --Serenity 18:57, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
- I agree that 20-30 seconds is enough. Can someone with sound editing software download (right-click->Save as...) the MP3 and upload a cut version with only the first 20-30 seconds? TIA --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 07:33, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- Working on it... --Spencerian 09:23, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- Done. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 09:25, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- Hm. It doesn't have the main theme anywhere in that cut I can hear... --Spencerian 09:27, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- The melody is there all the way. Just with different instrumentation. It starts very low key and then turns into full blown Star Wars-style orchestra. --Serenity 11:29, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- Catrope asked for the first 30 seconds... Which is what I cut. Of course, if we want the theme part, then go ahead and upload that. :-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 09:28, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- Actually, the first 15-20 secs was Spence's idea. But I agree another portion is better. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 10:05, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- My bad; I should have been more clear. If the original file is still available in an older revision, I'll revise and upload. --Spencerian 10:08, 24 May 2007 (CDT)

(re)Done. It's a perfect 30 second size with the right stuff. Thanks for the help. --Spencerian 10:38, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- Nice! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 10:43, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
I also went ahead and deleted the both the 4 minute version and my 30 sec clip from the repository. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 10:46, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- The free application I used on my Mac is Audacity, available for Windows and Linux, too. Get the special dylib file for exporting MP3s and you're good to go. --Spencerian 10:57, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- For the Mac, there's a pretty cool app called Audion that also does the job as well. Although Audacity is another great choice too. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 11:10, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
- I know about Audacity, I was just too lazy to install it :) --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 11:33, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
Descriptive Term
For what it's worth, this is actually called "Colonial anthem" on the Season 2 sountrack. --Serenity 05:06, 9 June 2007 (CDT)
- Noted. I'll correct it. --Spencerian 10:06, 10 June 2007 (CDT)
Numian's 3rd Sonata
I wonder, would it be worth mentioning the distinct possibility that the Anthem was composed (in universe) by Numian, or at least taken from his 3rd Sonata? -- Blind Wolf 07:35, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- Bear McCreary says on his blog that Numian is supposed to represent Stu Phillips and that both the Colonial Anthem and the Sonata are his. Ausir 11:59, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
