Revision as of 11:53, 6 October 2006

We can even make it look like the wiki one theme of course. Just thinking of the usefullness of it. http://blog.battlestarwiki.org/ — I have to think about this idea. Sounds good in theroy, but it takes away from people from trying the Mediawiki software. I would suggest just annocmenets. Otherwise it takes users away. Sorta like Official Annocments only type things. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:06, 12 September 2006 (CDT)

That's the idea. The blog would be nothing more than a gateway to get into the wiki itself, as it were. Call it a migration path, if you will. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 23:00, 12 September 2006 (CDT)
Sounds pretty cool idea. Would like to hear more about ideas for it though. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:05, 15 September 2006 (CDT)
Excellent. --Steelviper 06:52, 15 September 2006 (CDT)
I vastly prefer this over the idea of an official wiki forum. --Peter Farago 18:41, 25 September 2006 (CDT)
I have a few questions. Blogs are generally designed for one or two users to enter--it's a journal. It also tends to express a specific voice and is topic-driven, not a chatting board. Aside from mop duty, admins haven't any bigger voice than other contributors. So, if an entry is placed, who places it, and why? How do we control who posts the topic? Are entries generally based on show events, internal wiki topics, or politics? Assuming there is a message response area, who moderates the messages, deleting those that are offtopic or inappropriate? There's a lot of work here, and we really need to define it beyond its good intentions. --Spencerian 08:20, 26 September 2006 (CDT)
One possibility would be "Sitenotice" type content. "Hey, check out the new audio project", or "Please weigh in at the latest RFA/C", etc. Also you could potentially have weekly entries with links to the current week's episode article(providing a place for the users to respond to the show, as well as well as the episode article coverage). These are good questions, though, and I hope people weigh in with some thoughts. --Steelviper 08:33, 26 September 2006 (CDT)
This is more or less what I was aiming for. I want people to chime in on changes, though obviously this wouldn't be where policy is discussed. As to who posts, I believe that we could have a RFA-type process to determine who can post on the blog, do the mop duty, and other tasks. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 22:47, 28 September 2006 (CDT)

This has been my favorite proposal for "non-wiki-editing" user outreach to date. It looks to run the lowest risk of keeping "wiki-business" off of the wiki, while still providing people unfamiliar with the mediawiki interface a chance to provide visible feedback. --Steelviper 15:27, 25 September 2006 (CDT)
Agreed. --FrankieG 15:57, 25 September 2006 (CDT)
If we're able to control the little monster based on Joe's clarification, I'm in favor of it. It'll be good for the wiki to have a "mouth" and "ears." --Spencerian 08:13, 29 September 2006 (CDT)
I've expanded the proposal based on discussions on this talk page. Comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 10:20, 29 September 2006 (CDT)
That answers all my questions for it, so I recommend a vote. --Spencerian 10:33, 29 September 2006 (CDT)
