Favicon[edit]
Joe... I'm not sure when you did it, but the new favicon appears... garbled in my Firefox. I think it's because of the image scaling. I'm guessing that it's just the logo shrunk down way. Personally, I think such a small picture should be MUCH simpler. Just thought I'd weigh in on that. I'm not demanding a change or anything, just piping up. --Day (Talk - Admin) 00:27, 14 May 2006 (CDT)
Email Validation (2)[edit]
Earlier i posted to your talk page about the problems I was having with email validation. Well I kinda forgot about it for a while but the issue has cropped up again now I am an administrator of thw wiki. I posted more details about it to the Admins noticeboard. The email address that i am trying to validate is mattsims@evilmerc.com Cheers --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 15:08, 1 July 2006 (CDT)
- Maybe some experimentation could be done over at the hangarbay to try to troubleshoot this? --Steelviper 12:19, 6 July 2006 (CDT)
Subpages + Bot[edit]
Well.. I noticed something. Subpages for the User, Battlestar Wiki talk, and possaible some other namespaces. Maybe just turn them all on so it works as used. See Battlestar Wiki:Sandbox/Temp and Battlestar Wiki:Sandbox/Temp/Temp1 for examples. I can also work on the task bot if Perl is complied into PHP. --Shane (T - C - E) 14:15, 25 July 2006 (CDT)
- The bot might be ready to run again. I uploaded a whole bunch of fixes to the file. Post any errors to my email. Run it using perl taskbot.pl OPENTASK_UPDATE --Shane (T - C - E) 13:21, 26 July 2006 (CDT)
- No idea where to put this, but maybe the trusted group could get Patrol status. Patrol is just something to watch mark changes that they were seen. --Shane (T - C - E) 16:00, 27 July 2006 (CDT)
- UPDATE: http://www.battlestarwiki.org/en/index.php?title=Special:Recentchanges&hidebots=0 - Bot is working. :) Now it just needs to be added to the cron to run every 4 or 6 hours.
Joe, can you try running the bot. Wondering if you get the same error I get. --Shane (T - C - E) 14:27, 11 August 2006 (CDT)
- Sure. Testing now. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 14:54, 11 August 2006 (CDT)
- Just for the sake, I don't think it will work. --Shane (T - C - E) 14:58, 11 August 2006 (CDT)
- I can't do it right now for some reason anyway... Odd. I'll look into it after I get some things out of the way. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:07, 11 August 2006 (CDT)

Setting up a mirror[edit]
MediaBlvd would like to offer up some of our server space and bandwidth as a mirror, if that would be useful. Great job here, all involved.

- Thanks for the offer! I'll try to get in contact with you in the next few days to iron out details. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 09:30, 4 August 2006 (CDT)
- Side note... we should really setup this also joe.

Good News/Bad News[edit]
Doing some work on the MediaWiki talk:Edittools markup, I was trying to figure out why the markup was always driving us crazy. It was because of the current skin js code. So let me break this down more...
- Good News: The javascript code barily works with 1.7.1
- Bad News: For it to get fully working correctly, one of the classic skins needs to be enabled.
So... I'm a digging in the hangerbay and working on my CSS code and update the Hangerbay with 1.7.1 and also fix up my two skins with the new javascript. That's about it. :-) --Shane (T - C - E) 14:32, 3 August 2006 (CDT)
- Also need a quick run on the
maintenance/update.php
on the hangerbay so it's to date with 1.7.1
Domain Registrar[edit]
The domain registrar I use is www.namecheap.com and it $8.88 per domain per year. You can also pay via paypal. I am still in discussions with some people about hosting but I think that I can definitly save the wiki hundreds off the bill. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 02:45, 14 August 2006 (CDT)

DNS Prob[edit]
Did you contact 1and1? It's gotta be a DNS problem that not working. --Shane (T - C - E) 15:04, 15 August 2006 (CDT)
- I'll contact them (AceWebHosting) tonight. Been running around like a chicken with its head cut off for the past two days. lol -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:07, 15 August 2006 (CDT)

- Updates? --Shane (T - C - E) 11:02, 16 August 2006 (CDT)
- They said that it "is because your DNS zone is hosted on our name servers and when you add subdomains, those subdomain cannot be added to our nameservers. We've configured your DNS zone to resolve all subdomains to [IP address], it should fix this problem." So hopefully once everything propagates, it should work. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 11:39, 16 August 2006 (CDT)
- Interesting. I would think that would happen by default. lol. Ok... I will keep checking the subdomain. --Shane (T - C - E) 11:56, 16 August 2006 (CDT)
- Yes. But I don't think it's working though... I'll contact them again. Perhaps it's something else... Sigh. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 14:51, 16 August 2006 (CDT)

- Working. 500server error... it might be the .htaccess file so delete it once you get a chance. --Shane (T - C - E) 12:31, 18 August 2006 (CDT)
- Yes, I just woke up from my nap. Anyway, I fixed what happened. Apparently, it had to do with the nameservers I was using; I was using 1and1s nameservers (because I host my domains through 1and1, not AceWebHosting, which hosts BSG Wiki) and had to create a Glue Domain using the nameservers ns1.battlestarwiki.org and ns2.battlestarwiki.org. Fortunatley, it now works and I just have to go through .htaccess and see what's up. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 14:56, 18 August 2006 (CDT)

was right. We forgot to restart Apache. --Shane (T - C - E) 20:28, 18 August 2006 (CDT)- Bah, I knew I forgot something. I now remember doing this when I set up the other language wikis. Frak me. I'll get to it tomorrow. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:53, 18 August 2006 (CDT)
"Style"[edit]
I see that it is working now! What did you to fix it? Anyway, I sent you a quick update the LocalSettings.php file and the ZIP file containing the "hangerbay" style sheets. Follow the instructions in the email and everything should be set. Right now the skin that it set to is not found so I have no idea how you want to proceed. If you send me the style files for this style we are using now, I can edit the CSS file so everything can be unified and done only by CSS. It's both the "MediaWiki" color version and our colors version. Next time we are online. I guess we can work on transferring the images. --Shane (T - C - E) 17:11, 19 August 2006 (CDT)
- I restarted the server. I also had to remove the redirect rules in .htaccess, since they didn't work anyway. Other than that, everything looks good. I figure the best way to move all the images would be to just copy the pertinent tables from the en-wiki database and the corresponding image directories. Then we should be good. (Also, I've found out that unifying the username databases is next to impossible under the current MediaWiki software, which is why all the Wikipedia sites don't have a unifying logon yet.) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:35, 19 August 2006 (CDT)
- I also didn't get the files yet, either. Then again, I can always just copy the style files from the hangarbay. (I'll also be sending along the CSS the current scheme to you shortly.) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:36, 19 August 2006 (CDT)
As of right now...[edit]

Problems..[edit]
On the Babylon 5 Wiki? --Shane (T - C - E) 21:14, 22 August 2006 (CDT)
- Yes. It's just really stagnant and The Great Machine is still using the 1.3.x series Mediawiki software. I recommended that they upgrade, but they didn't. Also, as was mentioned, it's not really well organized and B5 fans would be better off, in my opinon, with a wikified version of the Lurker's Guide. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:24, 22 August 2006 (CDT)
- Yikes! 1.3.x. I go nutz. What lience do they use ebcause if it's it's open source... and you start your own wiki, which I might see in a few mintues "http://www.battlestarwiki.org/babylon5wiki/", use their content information. I'll help ya design it, but I have no skilz what so ever on Babylon 5. Never touched or watched the stuff. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:32, 22 August 2006 (CDT)
- Well, you won't see it in a few minutes... I'm focusing my attention on the BSG stuff right now. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:47, 22 August 2006 (CDT)

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Title::isImagePage() in /home/admin/domains/battlestarwiki.org/w/includes/SkinTemplate.php on line 728
which I try to browse a category of images. Update a skin? --Shane (T - C - E) 19:44, 25 August 2006 (CDT)
- Actually, I was updating it so as to add tabs to the image description pages on media. For example... The purpose is to link back to the image pages on the indivual language wikis, so the people can easily find out from their own description page as to whether or not the image is being used on their wiki. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:51, 25 August 2006 (CDT)
- Not really an extension. Just merely some additions to SkinTemplate.php, which I'll send your way as soon as I can. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 20:18, 25 August 2006 (CDT)

Wikibits.js and CSS[edit]
I just checked my javascirpt console. I am working on the problem. The CSS seems also to have some unneeded values. I will work on this for XHTML reasons, but not a major concern. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:33, 26 August 2006 (CDT)
- In wiki bits find
addLoadEvent(createNavigationBarToggleButton);
and change it toaddOnloadHook(createNavigationBarToggleButton);
. That should fix the problem. --Shane (T - C - E) 23:50, 26 August 2006 (CDT)
