Terrence McDonnell was the story editor and writer for the Original Series. He co-wrote three episodes of the series with Jim Carlson, his writing partner and fellow story editor on the Original Series.

McDonnell also wrote episodes for various series, including CHiPs, Magnum P.I. (with Don Bellisario), and the original Bionic Woman.

In later years, he worked as a producer for Win Ben Stein's Money, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Jeopardy!.
