Wikipedia has '''related sites''' for non-encyclopedic content.
==Related sites==
Battlestar Wiki is for prose articles about subjects considered [[encyclopedia|encyclopedic]] (along with some topics that would typically be found in an [[almanac]]), as well as content that could be considered [http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html Lurker's Guide-like] or words that you could find in a [[Wikipedia:dictionary|dictionary]].
Any article that simply defines a word, or short phrase, as you would find in a typical [[dictionary]], and that isn't considered a ''Battlestar'' unique word or phrase (such as [[Red Line]], [[volton (TOS)]], or [[frak]]) and cannot be expanded into an encyclopedic entry, should be contributed to [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia]]'s sister project, [[Wiktionary:Main page|Wiktionary]].
Original source text, such as from a [[Wikipedia:public domain|public domain]] book that you want to post to make it more accessible, should be contributed to one of Wikipedia's other sister projects, [[Wikisource:Main page|Wikisource]].
For a list of all related projects, see the [[Meta:Complete list of Wikimedia projects|Complete list of Wikimedia projects]].

===Linking to the related sites===
__NOTOC__
Say you have an uncommon word in an article that you write, that you think people might not understand -- and it is not ''Battlestar'' specific. So you're tempted to try and link to it on [[Battlestar Wiki]], but there isn't enough to say about that word to make a real encyclopedia entry.

Link to its Wiktionary entry. (If Wiktionary doesn't have it yet, do everyone a favor and add it, even if it's just a brief definition. Other Wiktionarians will help flesh it out.)
'''''Battlestar Wiki''''' has '''related sites''' for non-encyclopedic content. Linking to these sites can be done easily by using interwiki links. For example, you can link to the "Dog" article on [[w:|Wikipedia]] using:
:<tt><nowiki>[[w:Dog]]</nowiki></tt>
In this case, <code>w:</code> is the ''interwiki prefix'' associated with Wikipedia. A list of all interwiki prefixes can be found [[BW:INTER|here]].

Instead of the whole URL, you can use a wiki link similar to a regular Wikipedia link but with a special prefix. For example,
When using interlanguage links, beware of the difference between:
:<tt><nowiki>[[wiktionary:house]]</nowiki></tt>
:<tt><nowiki>[[de:Hauptseite]]</nowiki></tt>
will link to the Wiktionary definition of the word "house". In your article it will appear as:
:*Means the German version of this article can be found at [[:de:Hauptseite]]
:[[wiktionary:house]]
:*Link does not appear in the article text, but in the "In other languages" section of the sidebar
you can hide the "wiktionary:" part by adding a "pipe" (vertical bar) character:
:<tt><nowiki>[[wiktionary:house|]]</nowiki></tt>
as explained on the [[Wikipedia:Tutorial (Wikipedia links)|previous page]], so that the result is:
:[[wiktionary:house|house]]

The other projects have similar shortcuts. For more examples, see [[Wikipedia:How to link to Wikimedia projects|How to link to Wikimedia projects]].
:<tt><nowiki>[[:de:Hauptseite]]</nowiki></tt>
:*Produces a link to [[:de:Hauptseite]] in the article text

==Experiment==
These types of links still support piping as shown in the previous tutorial page.
Try it! Here's the [[/sandbox/]] for this page.

Battlestar Wiki has related sites for non-encyclopedic content. Linking to these sites can be done easily by using interwiki links. For example, you can link to the "Dog" article on Wikipedia using:

[[w:Dog]]

In this case, w: is the interwiki prefix associated with Wikipedia. A list of all interwiki prefixes can be found here.

When using interlanguage links, beware of the difference between:

[[de:Hauptseite]]
  • Means the German version of this article can be found at de:Hauptseite
  • Link does not appear in the article text, but in the "In other languages" section of the sidebar
[[:de:Hauptseite]]

These types of links still support piping as shown in the previous tutorial page.
