Shouldn't there be a mention about his borderline psychotic rant/editorial against the reimagined series? --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 00:19, 16 January 2006 (EST)

I know this doesn't relate at all to what we're here to do, but just for curiosity, what do you guys think about his comments?
> "'Re-imagining', they call it. 'un-imagining' is more accurate. To take what once was and twist it into what never was intended. So that a television show based on hope, spiritual faith, and family is unimagined and regurgitated as a show of despair, sexual violence and family dysfunction."
> "The male characters, from Adama on down, are confused, weak, and wracked with indecision while the female characters are decisive, bold, angry as hell, puffing cigars (gasp) and not about to take it any more."
Personally, I haven't seen the original (sorry, maybe I'm not a serious enough fan), but first off, I think Adama is practically the most solid and principled character in the show. A little hesitation just makes him human (which, when I last checked, is what he's supposed to be playing). Secondly, I always thought the despair, violence and dysfunction is what made the show so real (real where it counts). It's a show about humans fighting aliens in space. There's very little that can be done wrong regarding fighting aliens, but everything can be done wrong portraying humans. Thankfully, I think very little has. Again, I'm sorry for bringing such a off-topic convo here, but I'm really interested in what you other guys think. Especially if you've seen both. Thanks in advance. :My personal opinion is that he's bitter about the whole thing. In the Singer/SeSanto project he was supposed to play Starbuck and Richard hatch wasn't involved. Of course all that got shelved and then RDM got to make his version and there was no place for a cliché "ladies man" like TOS Starbuck. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:24, 25 January 2007 (CST)

Hey! :-) I think, you are a geek, Mercifull. ;-) But being on the topic of Big Brother - is it possible to update the Dirk picture here in the article with the promo shot from the channel4.com BB-Homepage? Pic can be found here I mean, would there be any copyright issues? --CC-Mel 15:04, 19 January 2007 (CST)
:If it's a promo shot on CBS' web page, it's fair use for us. I'll add it. And yes, Mercifull, you're a geek. At least move out of your mom's basement and into the garage apartment. :) --Spencerian 15:15, 19 January 2007 (CST)

There's a very interesting 'A few words from Dirk..' section in the Universal Playback website. I guess this is as official as it gets.. Someone should transcript it (and some of the questions). Updated from Dirk's site (probably official) as well as other online sources that corroborate the same information. Cool, he has a son named Roland as well. :) --Spencerian 11:54, 10 January 2006 (EST)

Shouldn't there be a mention about his borderline psychotic rant/editorial against the reimagined series? --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 00:19, 16 January 2006 (EST)

If you can find an article with a credited source that contains the rant that can be quoted by fair use, please do so. --Spencerian 10:13, 16 January 2006 (EST)

Redemption?

There's a very interesting 'A few words from Dirk..' section in the Universal Playback website. I guess this is as official as it gets.. Someone should transcript it (and some of the questions).
