Protecting redirects[edit]

I assume this was a mistake, and that you intended to protect the target rather than the redirect itself? If not, please restore. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 13:17, 15 January 2008 (CST)

Interwiki transcluding stuff[edit]

Just so you know: I tested, and #ifexist: doesn't work with interwiki transclusions. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:24, 31 January 2008 (CST)

That I knew... but I am working to get it to work. Shane (T - C - E) 16:06, 31 January 2008 (CST)

Hi[edit]

Thanks for the shoutout over at Wiki Frakr ... been extremely busy in real-life, but managed to catch the Season 4 premiere and felt like fooling around. Hope all is well with you and yours (and the same to any other Galactipedian who may read this)! Regards - JubalHarshaw 05:28, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Caprica characters[edit]

Why the delete tag? We have articles for characters from upcoming BSG episodes, like Emily Kowalski and Reza Chronides, so I don't see why we can't have articles for Caprica ones as well. Ausir 12:56, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vote bot[edit]

Are you actively developing the vote bot? If not, I'd like to write it ;) --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:08, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

neg. Go for it. I have wikipedia version, but havn't really looked at it in a while. Shane (talk) 20:52, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, I've finished it and it's running fine on my wiki. It does require MW 1.13, though. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 12:12, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
That could be a problem. :D Gotta link? Shane (talk) 12:42, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
To what, the bot or 1.13? Currently, 1.13 hasn't been released yet, there's only 1.13alpha that you can download from SVN. I'll upload the bot code later, after I've documented it. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 13:32, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
No no. :p To your wiki to where you tested it. :D Shane (talk) 14:25, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have it running on localhost, so I can't really show you. Maybe you could set up the Hangar Bay again (it's still out) and have it run 1.13alpha? I'll be happy to do the SVN checkout if you feel awkward about that. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:37, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
domain back up an working. You should be able to access the hb folder with your access. I think the LocalSettings.php file that is on there now has the current username/password you will need for updating to 1.13. Shane (talk) 15:40, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. However, I don't have write access to /home/bsgwiki/bots/ either, so I can't add VoteBot there. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 18:33, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Do'h! :P Will add. Shane (talk) 20:11, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK, more trouble. The bot is up there and I can run it from my machine, but since I guess we'll wanna run it on apollo as a cron job, I'll need you to work around some stupid PHP bug and add the following lines to /etc/hosts:

74.53.78.34 hb.battlestarwiki.org
74.53.78.34 en.battlestarwiki.org

etc. for every subdomain we want VoteBot to run on. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 20:57, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Werid. Let me check it out before I do anything with the hosts files. Shane (talk) 21:11, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Gota ya. Adding to our hosts file. HB and EN for now. Shane (talk) 21:16, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Double werid. I added to our hosts file those lines, and still no go on the command execution. Try to remove the port. Shane (talk) 21:22, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I added the 775 flags to the file so we cna work on it. Not the /etc/hosts file. Gtalk ? Shane (talk) 21:32, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Got it working. :) Shane (talk) 21:48, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, a typo must've happened somewhere. The last octet should be 35, not 34. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 12:31, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
?? What? Shane (talk) 13:08, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I mean the IP address in the /etc/hosts file for hb.battlestarwiki.org (and en for that matter) should end in .35, not .34. No idea why, but try to run ping en.battlestarwiki.org from your machine at home and see what IP it gives you. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 13:34, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Doh! That's right. I gave the wiki URL it's own IP. :) Changed... Why task bot didn't run last night too. Shane (talk) 14:18, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is because we are using one LocalSettings.php file for all the hosts. :( Shane (talk) 14:21, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, that wasn't it, it was a small modification I made to Snoopy once. I then redownloaded Snoopy and forgot about it. It works now. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 18:44, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Batch-exporting pages[edit]

Do you know about Special:Export and Special:Import, which allow you to bunch-copy pages (templates in this case) to another wiki? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 20:46, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ha. Yeah.  :) I learned about it recently. We might want to consider upgrading to 1.13 alpha here. Shane (talk) 20:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well it breaks ConfirmEdit in some weird way, so we probably wanna upgrade that too (doesn't break at my test wiki, and I also have ConfirmEdit installed). Same goes for all extensions of course. Some time around the airing gap (May 23rd) would probably be best. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 21:04, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Shane (talk) 21:05, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Questions[edit]

Hi, you welcomed me yesterday - I usually edit another wiki with an ongoing discussion of funding and hosting. I was interested in the way your wiki works. You seem to be A.) Independent from a host (i.e. you don't have host that has any say in waht you do, or you host yoursleves completly?) and B.) You have user payed subscription along with advertising - Does this work well? Also Wikia has its own battlestar wiki free of adverts and is free to use - however its mostly abadoned - which seems odd if you have to pay to get an ad free use on this one? I hope you don't mind me pestering:) Sycamore 15:54, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

French wiki[edit]

Thanks for your answer! You're right, there's a lot of work to do on the french wiki. The english one is really impressive. Too bad nobody here tried to translate more articles. Take the helm ? That would be with pleasure. As soon as you give me the right to rename/move pages, I'll try to make it right. That's not a hard work ; more a very very long one :) ; Anyway, I love it.

Thank you for everything. alvine 15:28, 19 January 2009 (UTC)AlvineReply

Guest stars[edit]

Hello. Thanks for your note on my talk page. I believe it is in reference to my removal of some actors (i.e. Michael Hogan, Tahmoh Penikett, Kandyse McClure, Michael Trucco, Allessandro Giuliani) from the guest stars section of season 4 episodes. I don't plan to take this any further back (you suggest that I might continue on as far as season 1) as these actors were in fact guest stars in earlier seasons and are correctly listed as such. I have removed them from the season four sections as they became part of the starring cast at the beginning of season 4 and are no longer guest stars. I don't see any need to propose this to the think tank as it is a cut and dry error correction. If you would like to make some kind of proposal regarding these edits please let me know and I'll happily reproduce my rationale there.--Opark 77 21:48, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you[edit]

Thank you! I'm currently updating the french wiki templates (translating the english ones). Since I translate the documentation, the code, and the templates' names, there may be some issues involving missing templates, or templates whose name is still in english (and thence not found when they are called)... This shall be fixed soon. Good news for the interwiki bot. I added the interwiki links by myself into templates pages because it is simpler to use an interwiki link than typing the entire URL everytime I had to go back and forth through each language versions... Thank you for all. We keep in touch. alvine 11:39, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Namespaces[edit]

Hi!

Sorry to bother you again. I'm still modifying many things on the french part of the site, and I need you again... for namespaces problems. With the french localization, the main namespaces were modified to french ones. However, the misc. namespaces (i.e. added with extensions of the wiki software) were not updated to french. I'm trying to have almost all the wiki translated to French, and these english namespaces look weird. Can you help me ? Here is a list of the translations I need:

English namespaces needing translation into French
< English namespaces > < French equivalents >
Portal Portail
Portal talk Discussion portail
Sources talk Discussion sources
Quotes Citations
Quotes talk Discussion citations
Podcast talk Discussion podcast

There is a mediawiki [extension] designed to manage namespaces.

Thank you for reading me again and again, day after day :) (and double thank you + good luck if you accept to translate those things).

Permissions issues[edit]

Thanks for the quick work on the Wiki Frakr permissions issue, I'm seeing the same problem when I try to access Battlestar Pegasus. JubalHarshaw 18:06, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I havn't restored those databases yet. Shane (talk) 18:11, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

French Battlestar Wiki[edit]

Hi, I just saw the english version of BSG Wiki and checked out for the presence of a french version. I found it but almost empty (compared to the english one). I work on wiki language and I am also admin of the french version of Stargate Wiki. I think it's possible for me to improve the french wiki site with translations and/or templates. So, is it possible please for you to give me the admin rights for the french wiki.
Thank you very much.--LIMAFOX76 16:03, 7 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, Thank you again for granted me admin rights. I just have another request because I think we must be bureaucrate to perform this: can you please rename two NAMESPACE in french?
