Name of the Battle
Any ideas for the name of the battle in this episode? I don't believe a name is given for the star system. Adama does give some coordinates (when concentrating the scanners), but those numbers are probably pretty relative. "Battle at Galaxy's Edge" was one thought that I had, since they were on the edge of the galaxy (and had to fight there to get out of the galaxy, or else take a long detour). Having freshly watched the episode, I'm ready to create the battle page, but I'd rather get a good name on the first try rather than have to move it around. --Steelviper 12:59, 25 January 2006 (EST)

Logical deduction concerning the location of the star system encountered in this episode
I have slightly modified the Analysis section of this article. Note that the last Galactica TOS and first Galactica 1980 episodes actually establish some fairly rigid constraints on the location of the Colonial fleet in those episodes...at least if faster-than-light propulsion is not used! In particular, we know that the Apollo 11 TV signals left Earth in July 1969 and are intercepted by the Galactica sometime before 1980. So if "the Hand of God" takes place in e.g. 1979 they must be ten light-years from Earth at that point, which leaves just a single year for the final dash to our solar system. Clearly, this won't work unless the Colonial fleet has FTL (=faster than light) capability. The other extreme would be if the signal is detected as early as 1970 while still within one light year from Earth, but the problem is there are no other star systems in the vicinity. The only scenario that works seems to be Alpha Centauri 4.3 light years from Earth. In this case the signal is detected on the far side of the Alpha Centauri system no later than mid-1974, and the final <5 light year journey to Earth takes 5-6 years at most (at 5.9 light years even Barnard's Star is too far away from Earth). This would also mean that Doctor Zee was born on a planet in the Alpha Centuri system 5-6 Earth years prior to Galactica 1980 assuming The Hand of God and The Return of Starbuck episodes are roughly contemporary. Finally, Kobol and the Twelve Colonies are located at most approx. 20 light years from our solar system assuming FTL is not used . AdmiralMarcus 20:57, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
