Judith Chapman (born November 15, 1945) is the American actress who portrayed Angela in the Galactica 1980 episode "The Return of Starbuck". She is best known for her various roles in long running daytime American soap operas such as As the World Turns, General Hospital, and Days of Our Lives.

Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Chapman was the daughter of an United States Air Force general and thus spent most of her life outside the United States.

While in Spain during her teenage years, she became interested in and pursued her career in acting. Her initial forays into acting included commercials and the "Spaghetti Western". She later moved back to the United States, obtaining a degree in theater at the Stephens College. After graduating, she moved to New York City, acting in stage productions and joining the Actor's Studio.[1]

Outside of her various roles in daytime soap operas, she has worked extensively in various Glen A. Larson productions including BJ and the Bear, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo, Magnum, Knight Rider, and The Fall Guy. [1] In 1986, she was nominated for "Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role" by Soap Opera Digest.

During a hiatus from acting, she taught at the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California for several semesters, but later returned to acting and began a stint as a director as well.[1]

She presently resides in Palm Springs, California with her life partner, James.[1] In addition, she is presently playing the role of Gloria Fisher Abbot in The Young and the Restless, a role she had since 2005.

Judith Maxie is a Canadian actress and voice artist who portrayed the Picon Delegate to the post-Second Exodus Quorum of Twelve in "The Ties That Bind".

Maxie is the daughter of Eleanor Collins, a pioneering Canadian jazz singer who was the first woman and first person of color in North America to host her own nationally broadcast television series.[external 1] She has established a substantial career in Canadian television and film, particularly in Vancouver-based productions.

Throughout her career, Maxie has appeared in numerous science fiction and genre productions. Her television credits include appearances in Sliders, The X-Files, M.A.N.T.I.S., Millennium, The Outer Limits, and Poltergeist: The Legacy.[production 1] More recent work includes roles in Supergirl, The Flash, The Good Doctor, and iZombie.[production 2]

Maxie has frequently been cast in authority roles, particularly as judges in various television movies and series. Her film credits include roles in Catwoman (2004) as a jeweler, The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008), and The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019).[production 2] She also portrayed Queen Leah in the Disney Channel's Descendants (2015) and reprised the role in Descendants 3 (2019).[production 2]

In addition to her on-screen work, Maxie has contributed voice work to several animated productions.[production 3] Her voice credits include a role in ReBoot (1994), voicing the character Estrella in Stellaluna (2004), and portraying Harmony in Class of the Titans (2005).[production 3]

Personal Life

As the daughter of legendary jazz singer Eleanor Collins, Maxie has been actively involved in preserving and promoting her mother's legacy. She has served as her mother's representative for public engagements and media inquiries.[external 1] In 2022, Maxie represented Collins at the unveiling of a commemorative Canada Post stamp honoring her mother's pioneering contributions to Canadian music and television.[external 2]

Maxie has spoken about her mother's approach to confronting racial adversity through her work and community engagement, noting that Collins believed in using her platform to demonstrate shared values across communities.[commentary 1]
