Intention
What exactly do you want to do here? Do you want to transcribe Q&A's, or just store them on the BSWiki server? --Catrope 07:00, 16 February 2007 (CST)
- It sounds like he's proposing both (Shane has long been an advocate of starting to host some of the Scifi content). I'd support the transcribing the Q&A's, blogs, etc. as there appears to be a healthy amount of information in those. I don't think I'd get to it myself personally, as the podcasts are currently consuming most of my wiki-cycles. However I would oppose hosting the content itself. As long as Scifi is willing to host it we should let them carry that burden. If they stop (and people have them backed up), we might then discuss hosting them for posterity, but in the meantime let them carry the load. They might not take kindly to us swiping their content (and potentially advertising revenue, etc.) --Steelviper 07:26, 16 February 2007 (CST)
- I concur that hosting video content would really overtax us, but I also believe it will not be a fair-use situation and become a copyright problem. Transcription of these items would be a nice season hiatus project, I think, with screen caps if possible. --Spencerian 07:32, 16 February 2007 (CST)
- Sounds Good, a lot of the cool stuff can only been seen from the US so transcripts would be sweet. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:26, 16 February 2007 (CST)
- I like this idea too, transcribing those would be a great project to do, especially since we'll have a long hiatus. --Talos 09:27, 16 February 2007 (CST)

- No problem with transcriptions. Hosting the videos, however, could be identified as copyright infringement. So I definitely Support the transcription of this content with appropriate screenshots, but we can't host the actual content itself. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 09:58, 16 February 2007 (CST)
- Additional thought, regarding the possibility of the content "disappearing". I know we got pretty far "up the latter" last time when we asked for official permission to transcribe the episodes. I'm wondering if we could contact SciFi and ask if we could mirror the BSG webvideos and podcasts. Probably a long shot, but we'd have a definitive answer then... -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 10:02, 16 February 2007 (CST)
- I wouldn't oppose this, but I'm thinking the odds of success on the videos are incredibly low. Considering that Scifi is having to use some sort of technology in order to (try to?) prevent viewers outside of the US from seeing them, I don't think they'd be happy if we had them sitting wide-open. (And I don't like the idea of having to weed out our international brethren.) However, the podcasts appear to be wide-open, accessible via direct links, with no apparent need to even access the Scifi website to get them. So with regard to the podcasts, I might hold out a glimmer of hope for "getting" to mirror them. --Steelviper 10:33, 16 February 2007 (CST)

Concensus Reached
A general consensus on transcribing the video blogs and question/answer videos has been reached, and that transcribing only (no hosting of any video content) is the best fair-use way to handle this idea (as done with episode podcasts). This article is being archived as "successful," and a new project page will be created. --Spencerian 09:36, 12 April 2007 (CDT)
