Financial viability
I have doubts whether this will actually raise more money on an annual basis. Let's say that I, as a regular at BSWiki, generate an average of 20 hits per day, which makes for 7,300 hits per year. Compensating for vacations and all that, I'll round it down to 7,000. Surely 7,000 ad views are worth more than $10? Or do you only get paid for ad clicks or for unique visitors? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 05:59, 16 November 2007 (CST)
- Noone gives money anymore for impressions. It's only ad clicks that get the money. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 07:58, 16 November 2007 (CST)
To clarify what Mercifull said, paid ad impressions only work when dealing with image banner ads or flash videos, and thus pay on a "cost per thousand" (abbreviated CPM, with "M" being the Roman numeral for thousand). Text ads only pay on a "cost per click" (CPC) basis, which varies depends on how much the advertiser is willing to pay per click. If you're an established website, like we are, with a large number of visitors, it ads up. Smaller websites are lucky to get mere cents a day. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 11:32, 16 November 2007 (CST)
FYI
I know you don't have the exact numbers of our site "view" to justify this $10 a year deal. We keep that data privite per our policy. However, we can truelly say we have crushed the numbers and we cover just about everything (50% is pretty close :)) on the ads already. Even during the down time that BSG is not airing. We are hoping that maybe Season 4 lasts longer and that other BSG related series will be able to be covered on this site to keep it active.
Just think of it this way... I am a member of Blockbuster. They have the "rewards" program where you pay $10 a year on top of your member ship to earn free retals. Mon-Wed they ofter 1 paid retal to 1 free rental deal. So getting two movies for $9.09 (yes... I rent alot) you get $9.09 free. ($10 covered in one day) for 4 movies, just paying for 2.
You visit the wiki almost everyday and contribute your knowedlge with the world to share. You help us establish the long lost article on Wikipedia because of your work. Even if it's small. I think of it as 1 word = 1 dollar. With 15,200+ edits and over 500+ hours (maybe 1,000) in technical support to the group (FrakMedia! Productions) I paid my worth, and then I slip Joe some money via Amazon for Gifts for family and friends, etc. etc. Just one way I help send $$$ to Joe.
In any case, it's really good deal, and even a better deal for you. :) And we will honor your "membership" to the next year on the date, and not a moment soon. Cheers. Shane (T - C - E) 23:23, 25 November 2007 (CST)
