Guidelines

While Joe has say, we can publicly say what type of ads we encourage to show and maybe put up the types of ads that would get accepted if there is any dispute of people submitting ads to Joe via AdBrite and the like. Shane (T - C - E) 16:40, 19 January 2007 (CST)

Obviously, we would like to be specific as possible, given that we should list what kind of ads are not permitted, as ads that we would permit are more numerous in quantity. The list is below. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:47, 19 January 2007 (CST)

List of ads we don't want

The following is a list of ads we won't approve on the wiki:

  • Pornographic ads
  • Ads to hate or defamation sites
  • Ads promoting illegal activities (illegal downloading, etc.)
  • Ads promoting or actively supporting any of the above
  • Links to photo galleries of any type
  • Social and users pages, such as MySpace, Facebook, and Yahoo!

Thoughts? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:47, 19 January 2007 (CST)

Sounds agreeable to me. --Spencerian 23:29, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Reason for "photo galleries" is for things like photobucket. Also Social users profiles. Shane (T - C - E) 02:22, 20 January 2007 (CST)
All sounds reasonable. Why someone would pay to have a link to their myspace nobody knows lol? --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 05:08, 20 January 2007 (CST)

Not sure if AdBrite even has them, but I'm also against blinking .gif files and the like. The list looks good --Serenity 06:10, 20 January 2007 (CST)

AdBrite can have those, but i belive Joe has it set to display only text based advertisements? --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 09:58, 24 January 2007 (CST)
Right now, I actually don't. I'm really waiting to hear back from Kevin to see what kind of ads his customers have in mind. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 20:48, 30 January 2007 (CST)

Any chance we could add SystemDoctor-style misleading ads to this list? They're both misleading (they tell you there are errors in your Registry, even when, like me, you run Linux and therefore don't have a Registry) and obtrusive (resizing browser to minuscule proportions, overwriting the tab I intended to use for a BSWiki page with a SystemDoctor ad). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:29, 19 April 2007 (CDT)

I agree. Previously the network ads were all automaticly approved but Joe is going to change it to manual approval which means that we have more control over which network ads appear on the site (not including direct paid ads) --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:46, 19 April 2007 (CDT)

I've noticed that AdBrite doesn't really pay out as much as it used to, despite the fact that we still get the same amount of hits, so I was thinking of signing up for Google's AdSense program for the wiki. The cool thing about AdBrite is that it will allow Google AdSense ads to be shown if they cost more than AdBrite's, so the two ad services should (theoretically) work well together.

I know that Mercifull had issues with Google AdSense, but I'd be willing to try them out.

I'm also looking into Gorilla Nation, to see if we can use them as well. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 20:37, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

Redo image

We need a generic "advertising" image to replace the AdBrite one, which I'll delete once I get around to it. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 23:51, 25 November 2007 (CST)
