Todd Martin (February 11, 1927 – June 2, 2015) was an American character actor with a five-decade career in film and television. He portrayed 3rd German Officer in the Galactica 1980 episodes "Galactica Discovers Earth, Part II" and "Galactica Discovers Earth, Part III."[external 1]

Early life

Martin was born on February 11, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York.[external 1] Standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) tall, his imposing physical presence would become one of his distinguishing characteristics throughout his acting career.[external 2]

Martin's acting career began in the early 1960s, predominantly in film roles.[external 3] His early film work included the Jean-Paul Belmondo crime drama Magnet of Doom (1963), the science fiction film Crack in the World (1965) where he played Simpson, and the Steve McQueen heist film The Thomas Crown Affair (1968).[external 4]

During the 1970s, Martin continued to build his filmography with notable roles in Bad Company (1972) with Jeff Bridges, the crime feature Hit! (1973) starring Billy Dee Williams, the western Jory (1973), and the drama Alex & the Gypsy (1976) with Jack Lemmon.[external 5][external 6]

Martin's television career was equally extensive, with appearances in numerous prominent series throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He had recurring roles in Columbo (1971), playing Sergeant Burke in two episodes between 1977 and 1978.[external 7] His television credits also included appearances in The Rockford Files (1974–1979), Mission: Impossible, The Six Million Dollar Man, Starsky and Hutch, McCloud, and Ironside.[external 8]

Martin also appeared in several television movies and miniseries during this period, including "Haunts of the Very Rich" (ABC, 1972–73), "Drive Hard, Drive Fast" (NBC, 1973–74), "The Barbary Coast" (ABC, 1974–75), "Cover Girls" (NBC, 1976–77), the miniseries "Captains and the Kings" (1976–77), and "Aspen" (1977–78).[external 9]

In 1979, Martin appeared in the television miniseries The French Atlantic Affair as Freuling, appearing in three episodes.[external 10] In 1980, he appeared in Galactica 1980 as 3rd German Officer in the time-travel storyline "Galactica Discovers Earth," which featured the Colonial Warriors traveling back to Nazi Germany during World War II.[external 11]

Martin continued working through the 1980s, with appearances in Vega$ (1979), Knight Rider (1984), Automan (1983), Simon & Simon (1983), Tales of the Gold Monkey (1982), and the television movie "Cave-In!" (NBC, 1982–83).[external 12][external 13] His final credited role was in the 1985 film Deadly Intruder, where he played Mr. West.[external 14]

Martin was occasionally credited under the alternative name "Todd Martens" during his career.[external 15]

Martin died on June 2, 2015, in New York City of natural causes, at the age of 88.[external 16]
