The Prolmar sector is a region of space many light years from the homeworlds of the Twelve Colonies. The sector has been mapped to some degree, as data is available to calculate a Jump. However, the Prolmar sector appears to be considered unexplored space which has been rarely, if ever, explored by humans using ships, as it would place an exploring ship "well beyond the Red Line" for Jump calculations.

After realizing the futility of fighting a war against a massive Cylon force that occupies their homeworlds, Commander Adama decides to leave their home solar system and the Cylons behind, never to return.

Adama picks the general direction of the Prolmar sector for Galactica and over 70 ships containing the survivors of the Cylon holocaust to escape from a Cylon fleet amassed to destroy them at Ragnar Anchorage (Miniseries).

Lieutenant Gaeta is assigned sole responsibility for plotting the jump, athough no one has ever plotted a Jump as far away before. The Jump is successful. Soon after, however, the Cylon fleet ambushes the Fleet relentlessly through the Prolmar sector, attacking the Fleet every 33 minutes for five days until one civilian ship used to track the Fleet is destroyed by Colonial Vipers (33).
