Maya is a civilian within the Fleet who is selected from a list of possible adoptive parents drawn up by Tory Foster for Hera, the Human/Cylon hybrid-child of Karl and Sharon Agathon. President Roslin decides that the child will not be raised by her birth parents, summarily ordering Dr. Cottle to stage the hybrid's death as a means to secret the child from both public and Cylon knowledge.
Maya is told that the baby is given up by a Pegasus officer due to political and religious reasons (Downloaded). Maya names the child, Isis, unaware of her true origins (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II).
Maya becomes a teacher and aide to fellow teacher Laura Roslin when New Caprica is colonized (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II).

Maya is killed during the Battle of New Caprica in a vain attempt to escape the Cylon-occupied planet. Screams from Hera lead Gaius Baltar, Caprica Six, and D'anna Biers to Maya's body -- and the child herself, which Biers takes into possession (Exodus, Part II).
