Maya is a civilian within the Fleet who was selected from a list made for Dr. Cottle by Tory Foster listing possible adoptive parents for Hera, the Human/Cylon hybrid-child of Helo and Sharon Valerii. President Roslin had decided that the child should not be raised by her "birth" parents and she ordered Dr. Cottle to stage the Hybrid baby's death to disguise the adoption from Sharon and Helo. Maya was told that the child was given up by an officer of the Pegasus due to political and religious reasons (Downloaded). Maya nameed the child, Isis. She is not aware that the child is a Cylon/Human hybrid.

Maya became a teacher when New Caprica was colonized. (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II).

Being discovered on the planet.

She died trying to escape the planet during the Cylon occupation. (Exodus, Part II). Her adopted child, Hera/Isis, was found alive next to her body by Gaius Baltar and Caprica-Six.
