License Issues with Wikipedia

Although I GREATLY appreciate ANY attention this article gets (or any TOS article, for that matter), I think there might be a problem with the current version. I'm not going to get into the detail (because I don't understand them, not because I'm holding anything back), but I think that the license of this site is incompatible with that of Wikipedia. If you look through the history of this article you will see that it originally was derived from the Wikipedia entry before being blanked (due to the license issues). --Steelviper 14:59, 31 January 2006 (EST)

A fair enough assessment, I'll blank the thing again and start from scratch. :) Joemc72 15:04, 31 January 2006 (EST)

Thanks! Hopefully one of our license experts might weigh in (I think Peter Farago usually speaks up about such things). --Steelviper 15:49, 31 January 2006 (EST)

Starting over

Ok, I rewrote the thing from scratch, based partly on the wiki entry, and some other resources I found out there on the Internet. Feel free to hack away at it. Joemc72 15:58, 31 January 2006 (EST)

Good job!  :-) Perhaps we can add some links to Wikipedia articles on Bonanza, Canada and the usual suspects throughout the entry as well. -- Joe Beaudoin 16:03, 31 January 2006 (EST)
Working on it now. Just another step in my plan to take over the world...:) Joemc72 16:04, 31 January 2006 (EST)
History: My bad. As Peter has greatly illuminated with me before, we can derive text content only from other CC licensees (which Wikipedia is NOT). If the TVIV.org wiki (a CC licensee) has data on Greene there, it CAN be derived directly with credit, which I recommend. Screencaps do NOT fall under this provision as images are always owned by the copyright holder of the product, which are used here (as in all wikis) under fair use claims. Joe, so long as your Internet sources are not directly copied (which is a form of plagiarism AND copyright violation from a non-wiki and some wiki sources if discovered), then we should be OK. To cover our butts, however, please state your source. --Spencerian 16:05, 31 January 2006 (EST)
No problem. [[1]] This site popped up in a search, and has good references cited within. I know it's a message board post (Which is usually a no-no), but many of the other sites I visited contained similar info, but didn't cite sources. Joemc72 16:18, 31 January 2006 (EST)
Cool beans. Since a celebrities's biographical data is generally considered public knowledge, this shouldn't be a problem as long as we didn't outright lift-and-tuck it from a privately owned or commercial site. Thanks for the help there--Lorne deserves more than just a stub page. --Spencerian 16:23, 31 January 2006 (EST)
I agree. I've wikified the links as well. There's so much more info that can be put here though. Joemc72 16:27, 31 January 2006 (EST)
I don't know why... but I'm smellin' another project here. :-) -- Joe Beaudoin 16:42, 31 January 2006 (EST)
Uh-oh...the BSG Wiki-Wiki Linky project...:)Joemc72 16:45, 31 January 2006 (EST)
