The "cigarettes" they are both smoking are--we are given to understand in the commentary podcast, and by the way that Adama handles his--a bit... um... relaxing. Sharing them suggests a certain amount of camaraderie and "letting their hair down". One is left wondering what the degree of social acceptance is for such things. Ever heard of "Black Friday"...? Regarding the comment that "Kara Thrace does not feel obligated to follow rules of engagement". Do we know that for sure? They certainly appeared to be boxing and not kick-boxing, but do we really know that they are playing by Marquis of Queensbury rules? Or might the kicks be a bit more acceptable in their tradition?

Perhaps I'm questioning how close their culture and ours are more than usual after seeing Adama toss away that roach, but as I was watching, I wasn't sure exactly what the "rules of engagement" were for several reasons:

• They never call it "boxing"--always "fighting".
• Lee had his tags on, and addressed her as "Captain" when he challenged Kara. Are they outside the "tradition"?
• Kara was barefoot while fighting. Does that imply anything?
• Kara threw the first kick moderately early. Lee responded with a choke hold.
