Maya is a civilian within the Fleet who lost a baby not long ago.

She is selected from a list made for Dr. Cottle by Tory Foster as a possible adoptive parent for the child of Helo and Sharon Valerii after President Roslin decides that the child should not be raised by her mother. Roslin orders Dr. Cottle to stage the baby's death to disguise the adoption from her parents.

Maya is told that the child was from a female Pegasus officer who gave up the child for political and religous reasons (Downloaded).
