The main doctor in sickbay is Dr. Cottle, but in emergencies labcoat-wearing physicians who are sometimes present in the Weight Room and several medics can be called in to help to tend to the patients (Litmus).
The sickbay also seems to have the equipment of a basic small hosptial; beds, stretchers, IV's, etc. The spartan appearance of the sickbay is reminiscent of a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) unit.
Major characters who have spent time in sickbay are:
- Cally -- gunshot wound in Bastille Day
- President Laura Roslin -- breast exam and inquiry about available medication in Act of Contrition
- Starbuck -- broken knee from You Can't Go Home Again to Six Degrees of Separation
- Boomer -- for gunshot wound in the cheek from Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I
According to Lee Adama, the sickbay is also designed as a disaster shelter in the event of a ship catastrophe (Valley of Darkness).
