I don't think we can be sure that Shelly's real aim was to push Baltar into accepting the Cylon God. It seems more likely that she was truly trying to discredit him in order to stop the Cylon Detector from being completed. In the previous episode, a Doral attempted to destroy the Cylon Detector in a suicide bombing. Amos frans 03:07, 15 June 2006 (CDT)
- Thanks for commenting, Amos. There are new twists on the Godfrey mystery as of the episode, "Downloaded."
- How, if virtual Six is imaginary, was Godfrey summoned (and dismissed) at the right time after Baltar's tiff with virtual Six? How, or did, the two "Six's" communicate? Or, does Baltar do something that causes the changes?
- The Shelly model denied any Cylon corraboration (she was either a sleeper or under deep cover, as D'anna Biers is).
- Was Doral actually targeting the detector, or Galactica's commanders? They were nearby and were spotted by Doral, who proceeds with his plan.

- For #2, I don't understand, why would Shelly admit anything? About #3, it doesn't seem very likely Doral was after Tigh and Adama, he was already past them when Adama called his name. He only detonated the bomb when he got caught, it seemed like he hadn't yet reached his target. --Amos frans 14:31, 15 June 2006 (CDT)
- For my 2nd point, Baltar was unable to coax Shelly into admitting being complicit in virtual Six's attempts for his "repentance," so I think she was on her own; virtual Six was not really involved--I think she is really a hullucination. As for Doral, I'll have to watch that scene again. You might be right. --Spencerian 16:43, 15 June 2006 (CDT)
POV Issue
This article presupposes that Godfrey and the virtual Six are connected, while information from "Downloaded" confirms that the virtual Six (and Caprica-Six's virtual Baltar) are NOT Cylon constructs, nor are either sides aware of the existence of these phantoms. For the article to make a connection stretches plausibility as well as known data. We do know that virtual Six does tend to appear when he is endangered, or when "it" feels the need to intervene. That's really all we know. It may be (knowing that Gaius exists) that he somehow can sense (unconsciously) when a Six model is around. Again, that's supposition. --Spencerian 08:11, 10 October 2006 (CDT)

Status as a cylon
Isn't it supposition that Shelly is a cylon? Technically, all we know is that, like Head Six, she is someone who has the appearance of a Number Six model cylon. However, no other known cylon has ever mentioned her or claimed to know anything about her.
If the popular theory that she is a manifestation of Head Six is correct, then she may well not even be a cylon. It seems doubtful we will ever find out the truth about who or what Shelly really was, but I feel as though her status as a cylon is not concrete at all. --Motoki 17:43, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- She's a Cylon. She's not some head character, as she had a physical appearance and interacted with everyone. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 18:54, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- She could have been yet another "angel", in the sense that Kara Thrace turned out to be one... her mysterious disappearance isn't an ability shown by any other cylons, but *is* extremely similar to how Kara Thrace disappeared. Marianne 09:51, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
What's in a Name? She'll A God Free
Hello,
I am brand new to the forum/website and have been re-watching the series after watching Caprica.
My hypothesis about Shelly is based off her name and actions during her short time aboard Galactica. I am assuming that the writers did not simply pick names for these characters randomly and in fact encoded more meaning behind them, especially in this case.
Has anyone heard/played a game called MAD GAB? I am very good at the game which requires you sound out weirdly ordered words to come to common phrases. When I saw her name I immediately translated her name to be: She'll a God Free.
She'll A God Free= Shelly Godfrey (saying either phrase/name quickly makes one sound like the other and vice versa, just like Mad Gab :-)). This coincidence in her name is then further reinforced by what she accomplishes. Her intent from the get go may have seemed to frame Balthar with the picture, but as Gaeta puts it, it's almost as if she wanted to be caught.
Her actions ultimately accomplish two things:
(1) Get Balthar to sincerely ask forgiveness from a One True God when he kneels and prays at the bed in his cell (here I emphasize his sincerity in his moment of crisis, he wasn't just saying it to say it). Here the One True God was freed in the mind of a self described man of rationalism.
(2) Reinforced Balthar as an individual beyond questioning in the community, elevating to the status of Savior or Guardian (a springboard for him on the path to deification in later episodes). He was from this point forward free to become a God or Messiah since he had passed his "trial by fire".
