Michael Ryan is a Canadian actor who played Ray Abinell in the Re-imagined Series episode "Sacrifice".[external 1] Over a career spanning four decades, he has worked frequently under the reversed credit name "Ryan Michael," particularly in British productions and in his earlier North American work.
Career
editRyan's earliest confirmed screen credit is the role of drummer Pete Best in the Dick Clark Productions television film Birth of the Beatles (1979), directed by Richard Marquand and broadcast on ABC on 23 November 1979.[external 2][external 3] Best himself served as a technical advisor on the production, which chronicles the group from their Hamburg residency through the firing of Best and his replacement by Ringo Starr. Ryan received an on-screen credit as "Ryan Michael" for the role. The following year, he appeared in the British crime film The Long Good Friday (1980), directed by John Mackenzie and starring Bob Hoskins, in a small part as a waiter named Ricardo, again credited as Ryan Michael.[external 4]
In 1990, Ryan took the supporting role of Tom Rogan in both installments of the ABC television miniseries It, adapted from Stephen King's 1986 novel. The character is the abusive ex-husband of Beverly Marsh, who appears in the miniseries' Chicago-set framing sequences.[external 5][external 6] The role was credited as "Ryan Michael."[footnotes 1]
Through the 1990s and 2000s Ryan accumulated credits on Vancouver-based genre television. He appeared in two episodes of The X-Files between 1994 and 1997, playing Agent Cameron Hill and the Overcoat Man in separate episodes.[external 7]
Ryan appeared as Ray Abinell, the deceased husband of hostage-taker Sesha Abinell, in the episode "Sacrifice."[external 1]
In 2010, Ryan played Frank Moss — the father of criminology student Jason Moss — in the Canadian thriller film Dear Mr. Gacy, directed by Svetozar Ristovski and starring William Forsythe as John Wayne Gacy.[external 8]
