Eric Forst is an American actor who portrayed the 1st German Officer in the Galactica 1980 episode "Galactica Discovers Earth, Part II."[external 1] His appearance came during a time-travel sequence set in Nazi Germany in 1944, where the character Xavier attempted to accelerate German rocket technology at Peenemünde.[external 2]
Career
edit sourceForst built a career in American television during the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s, frequently portraying German military officers and officials in World War II-era productions. His specialty in portraying authority figures and military personnel led to recurring work across multiple television series.
Television Work
edit sourceForst's television career began in the mid-1960s with guest appearances on several prominent series. He appeared in Combat! (1964-1965), playing a German Lineman in one episode and a German Officer in another, demonstrating his early typecast in military roles.[external 1] He also had a role in The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1964) as "The 3rd Acolyte," and appeared in Kraft Suspense Theatre (1965) as a Doctor.[external 3]
In the mid-1960s, Forst guest-starred on 12 O'Clock High (1965-1966), playing both a German Lieutenant and a German Officer across two episodes.[external 3] He made a brief appearance on Green Acres (1966) as a "2nd Tanker," showing his versatility beyond military roles.[external 3]
His work continued into the late 1960s with an uncredited appearance as a Policeman in Mission: Impossible in the 1967 episode "A Cube of Sugar."[external 4] In 1970, he appeared on The F.B.I. as an East German Official.[external 3]
Forst's pattern of portraying German military personnel continued into the 1970s with television movie work. He played a Bund Speaker in The Lindbergh Kidnapping Case (1976) and German Soldier #6 in Keefer (1978).[external 3]
Film Work
edit sourceIn 1980, Forst appeared in the science fiction film Altered States, directed by Ken Russell and starring William Hurt.[external 5] He portrayed a character named Mingus in the film, which explored themes of consciousness alteration and human evolution through sensory deprivation experiments.[external 1]
Later Television Appearances
edit sourceForst's final credited television work came in 1981 when he appeared in The Greatest American Hero as a European Representative in one episode.[external 1] This role marked a departure from his typical German military characterizations, representing a more contemporary diplomatic figure.
