A "blood trail" (also known as a "blood hunt") is a Borellian Nomen ritual of justice in accordance to "The Code." Those on a blood trail pursue someone for a wrong done to a Nomen, such as a murder or theft.
"Captain Dmitri" is the target of a blood trail for swindling them out of precious items (TOS: "The Man with Nine Lives").
