Welcome to the BSGWiki. Little side info; if you want to leave notes for other editors, leave it in that bar at the bottom for "summary", but not on the page itself. Good luck though. --Ricimer 17:02, 20 January 2006 (EST)

Hawke, I admire your zeal in getting rid of redirects, but I think it's a little questionable for you to alter other user's entries on talk pages. Although it's always good to try to avoid linking to a redirect, they exist for a reason, and it's not all-important that every single one be eliminated. --April Arcus 05:30, 5 February 2006 (EST)

Yes: changing the talk page postings of another user, by like fixing their spelling and links and stuff, is generally frowned upon. --Ricimer 12:31, 5 February 2006 (EST)
From a technical standpoint, then, how does one here go about righting a technical incorrection like that? I completely agree with you about editing someone's talk-page entries for content -- you'll never see me do that sort of thing. However, I've done forum moderation before, and am a stickler for keeping things technically (or mechanically) sound, in that links are active, correct, etc. If there isn't the ability to correct such technical variances, then I'd advocate for making a rule of not including links in talk pages. -- Hawke 12:45, 5 February 2006 (EST)
Generally, you should ask the user to either change the links themselves or for permission to change the links yourself. -- Joe Beaudoin 13:19, 5 February 2006 (EST)
If, for example, you are changing all links from "Commander Adama" to "William Adama", I'd think that's okay because you're removing it from the entire wiki. But if someone is referring to "Scar" the Raider, and they just link to "Scar", which would take them to the episode...just leave it. Anything more would be nitpicking, because everyone probably understood in context what the person was talking about. I mean, changing entry links a week or two after the converstation is over would be pushing it. --Ricimer 13:56, 5 February 2006 (EST)
I respect your viewpoints and concerns... I'm only trying to keep technical variances and "database bloat" from occurring by clipping them off as soon as possible. If UserBob links to "Scar (fightercraft)" and we all agree to change the page title to "Scar (Raider)", then a fix of the link is in order, both to clean out the unnecessary redirect and to prevent any new users from assuming that "Scar (fightercraft)" is the page to link to when they create their own entries... which it's not. *deep breath*... Make sense? I've encountered this same problem over on another Wiki that I moderate, and all I ask out of the users is to observe and understand the structure ahead of time. I don't want to intrude on, or edit their creativity or contributions, but I have to make sure that the Wiki functions smoothly for everyone. Maybe I don't have to do it here, since you guys are so thorough. -- Hawke 14:24, 5 February 2006 (EST)
Although I welcome Joe's correction if I'm wrong, I don't think that linking to redirects harms the wiki in any concrete way. --April Arcus 16:20, 5 February 2006 (EST)
