Where do we learn her name from? Can't hear it in the Flashbacks. OTW 17:20, 16 October 2007 (CDT)

Goldbrick[edit]

The name, "Goldbrick", comes from the subtitles. It is treated as a proper noun there. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 12:00, 15 December 2007 (CST)

That's as may be, but are subtitles anywhere authoritative? The line of dialogue that Adama uses about sickbay makes the more traditional meaning of goldbrick and "goldbricker" more likely. The subtitler might have been making the wrong assumption. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 12:03, 15 December 2007 (CST)
Well, that depends on whether the person keying in the subtitles didn't use the script as reference. The best route would be to ask Bradley. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 12:09, 15 December 2007 (CST)
We could make a footnote about the source and that we aren't sure. It can actually be both. Callsigns are often derived from persons' negative traits or something stupid they did. --Serenity 12:11, 15 December 2007 (CST)
That would be for the best, since goldbrick is also defined as "a thing that looks valuable, but is in fact worthless". Or it could be in reference to her golden hair. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 12:13, 15 December 2007 (CST)
Sounds good to me. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 12:15, 15 December 2007 (CST)
I'd say that her callsign is indeed "Goldbrick" for the following reasons: 1) That's the name Adama uses in the scene, and 2) given RDM's practice of following contemporary practices (not exactly, but enough for familiarity), callsigns are often based on embarassing qualities or mistakes performed by pilots, and the more the callsign was objected, the more it stuck. It might even be an complimentary, ironic callsign - she might seem so calm and relaxed on a mission that some joke that she's "goldbricking" on the job.--Fredmdbud 16:26, 15 December 2007 (CST)
That's my inclination as well, but I can see where Khaosworks is coming from, and since it's nebulous enough to be put into question, I've thrown in the footnote and decided to ask Bradley about it. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 16:32, 15 December 2007 (CST)

(bumping down again) Cool. Anyway, I've asked the question. Perhaps Bradley knows the answer. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 12:21, 15 December 2007 (CST)

Let's not forget the callsign "Boomer" for her penchant for hard landings - so not-quite-flattering callsigns aren't unprecedented. It will be interesting to hear Bradley's answer.--Fredmdbud 16:36, 15 December 2007 (CST)
Agreed. I've also queried on whether or not she continued to live after the explosion. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 17:20, 15 December 2007 (CST)
