Portal talk:Merchandise

From Battlestar Wiki, the free, open content Battlestar Galactica encyclopedia and episode guide

Note!

Because this a potenially large section to add to the site, as well as the format and the number of new articles that can arrise from a new portal this is the disscussion about in it's "talk" page before I even start the coding.

The Concept

It would be the same thing as the TV Show portal's but have the Portal:Cylons and Portal:Ships feel as it will be a way to navigate through. Because there is very little comics and so much content, that's why I suggest this way. Plus the comics are related to the new series, but are in the {{separate continuity}} "area". So... with that in mind... all articles, characters, events, etc., would be placed on the (Comic) namespace. [[Article Here ([SERIES of Comic Abrivation] Comic)]], depending if there is more than one "SERIES". But if there is two things that are the same, i.e. Viper (Comic), you would not need the in the namespace. That's about it.

Or should this be Comics AND Books together? --Shane (T - C - E) 16:38, 10 June 2006 (CDT)

What about dividing up the "ancilliary continuity" based on its "parent" continuity? That is, TOS comics and novels together, RDM comics and novels together, and the video game alone as a third portal. Incidentally, thank you for bringing this up on the talk page before implementing it (although Battlestar Wiki talk:Portals would have been a better location). --April Arcus 16:54, 10 June 2006 (CDT)

What exactly do you have in mind? --April Arcus 23:51, 10 June 2006 (CDT)

A Box

For each series not for each book/comic for the series of a book or novel they would get their own Portal box. --Shane (T - C - E) 17:34, 2 August 2006 (CDT)

Wiki Store Items

Would this be a good spot to highlight some of the items that can be purchased via the Wiki Store (Amazon affiliate) or via the iTunes store? --Steelviper 08:19, 21 February 2007 (CST)

At the moment theres still not too much on there, but definitly we could so something with amazon/itunes here. the page overall could do with a bit more bling. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:25, 21 February 2007 (CST)

Visibility

Should there be a link to this portal off of the main page somewhere? I'm thinking either the Merch box or in the "portal browser" (but I'm leaning towards the former, since we don't want to crowd the other portals). --Steelviper 08:21, 21 February 2007 (CST)

yes definitly should be linked from the merchandise box instead of the category page. I dont think it really needs to be on any other portal bits cus most of the portal are related to characters or races. Merch is comepletely seperate. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:26, 21 February 2007 (CST)

New DVDs

Does anyone know anything about these new and apparently pointless DVDs coming out at the start of October? It appears to be half of the original series and the first 3 discs of the new series each for only £2 less (on certain websites) than it would cost you to buy the COMPLETE series boxsets of each. Just another rip-off we region-two-ers are used to or, and I'll be really surprised if this is the case, something worth mentioning here? I presume the 3-disc new series box is just a repackage of the equally pointless episodes 1-10 box, which was surely devised as a devious scheme to con the unfortunate impulse buyer not sure of what's what.--Thetriangleguy 14:10, 20 September 2007 (CDT)

Well, it is worth mentioning... although I do agree that it's probably meant to sucker the unsuspecting or impulse buyers out there. DVD companies are becoming more shrewd in how they market their stuff. Take Galactica 1980 (Region 1 DVD), for example. It's being billed as the "final season of the original series". Although TOS fans know better, those who have just found the series may not know of 1980's sad history... and the fact that it's bad. Probably worse than The Starlost. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 14:17, 20 September 2007 (CDT)
