Battlestar Galactica: Discovery was the planned eighth novel in Richard Hatch's continuation of the Original Series, to be co-authored with Brad Linaweaver. The novel was intended as the second half of a two-part story begun in Redemption, but was never published due to legal disputes over publishing rights.[external 1]

Publication History

edit source

Redemption, published in 2005, concluded with a deliberate cliffhanger ending featuring Baltar and Imperious Leader in the astral plane, with Imperious Leader announcing "Thanks to your invaluable contribution, we can finish what we started." This was intended to set up the storyline for Discovery.[external 2]

According to Hatch, books seven (Redemption) and eight (Discovery) were written as a two-part story, with the rights being lost before the eighth book could be published. The novel remains unpublished, and the manuscript's current status and ownership are unclear.

Following Hatch's death on February 7, 2017,[external 3] and Linaweaver's death on August 29, 2019,[external 4] the future publication prospects for Discovery remain uncertain and likely improbable.

  • The working title, listed on Amazon and other booksellers listings, may have been subject to change, as was common with the Hatch/Linaweaver collaboration.
  • Whether the novel was completed before the publishing rights dispute occurred is unknown.
  • The cliffhanger ending of Redemption leaves several unresolved plot threads, including Baltar's continued existence on the astral plane, Imperious Leader's mysterious fourth brain, Count Iblis's plans for his son with Cassiopeia, and the ongoing search for Earth.
