Crashdown's Triton's patch on his flight suit (33).
Crashdown's Triton's patch on his flight suit (33).

The battlestar Triton, belonging to Battlestar Group 39, and featuring integrated command and control systems, and Dr. Gaius Baltar's Command Navigation Program (CNP) is reported as lost with many other battlestars of the Colonial Fleet during the initial Cylon Attack, along with Columbia and Solaria (Miniseries).

According to records in William Adama's possession, Kara Thrace served aboard Triton, holding the rank of lieutenant junior grade prior to becoming a pilot on Galactica. The ship's commanding officer at that time was James Jonasson (The Son Also Rises).[1]

While it is never explained how Crashdown escaped the destruction of Triton or when he joined Galactica and her Fleet, Boomer refers to her new ECO as "a refugee from Triton". Crashdown's uniform patch[2] in that episode reads "Battlestar Triton" rather than "Battlestar Galactica" (33).

Notes

  • The ship is likely named after a figure in Colonial faith or mythology, given the parallels of the Colonial faith and the pantheon of Greek gods. In Greek mythology, Triton is not one of the Twelve Olympians himself (and as such might not be considered a Lord of Kobol by the Colonials), but the son of Poseidon and messenger of the sea.

References

  1. Triton information is from a record of disciplinary proceedings against Kara Thrace seen in "The Son Also Rises".
  2. The Triton patch is one a series of rare patches from other ships. The patch reads "BST" instead of "BSG". The costuming department very likely assumed that "BSG" stands for "Battlestar Galactica" and changed the last letter accordingly. However, "Water" and the Pegasus patch establish that it stands for Battlestar Group.
