A standard toaster

The Toaster is a device on Earth reknowned for its ability to make the popular breakfast food served with butter, jelly, eggs, or other confection. Toasters come in two, four, or even six-slot models. Besides toasted bread, a toaster can also make muffins, teacakes, buns, baps, baguettss, bagels, croissants, crumpets, pancakes, potato-cakes, hot cross buns, flap jacks, and waffles.

An original Cylon Centurion, which bears a strong resemblance to a toaster.

The term is used as the derisive nickname that the Colonials have for the Cylons, due to the fact that the original models resembled "walking chrome toasters". Number Six considers "Toaster" to be an offensive racial epithet (Resistance). Helo also got angry when an angry Chief Tyrol called Caprica-Sharon a toaster (Flight of the Phoenix).
