Rya Kibby is a 17 year old young woman from Gemenon.
She is four months pregnant when she sneaks aboard Galactica, seeking to get an abortion with the aid of Dr. Cottle. She eventually requests asylum in order to prevent her from being returned to her family before having an abortion.
The incident leads to a political struggle between President Laura Roslin and the Gemenese delegation, including Gemenon's representative Sarah Porter.
Despite a proclamation by Roslin against future abortions, Rya is still allowed to undergo the procedure, as she has made her request prior to the change in policy (The Captain's Hand).
