Layne Ishay

Paramedic Ishay is a medic serving aboard the Galactica. One of the many resource shortfalls of the Galactica's ongoing logistical nightmare is a shortage of medical personnel. Major Cottle is the only trained physician on board, supplemented by a handful of medics. As a result, Ishay is frequently required to step up to perform medical proceedures she wouldn't normally be expected to perform.

When Commander Adama was shot by Sharon "Boomer" Valerii in a failed assasination attempt, Cottle was not on board when the Fleet jumped to the wrong nav coordinates. Subsequently, Ishay and other medics tried their best to save Adama's life. Despite never having performed an operation in her life, Ishay operated on Adama and was eventually able to stablize his condition ("Scattered"). However, she had been unable to fully stop Adama's internal bleeding, and then aided the recently-arrived Major Cottle in another surgery with saved Commander Adama's life ("Fragged").
