Tom Lieber was a television executive at Universal Cable Productions during the development and production of Caprica. His career has since seen him become a hands-on producer and a senior creative leader for major streaming services, notably Netflix's Marvel television series.
Biography
Tom Lieber began his career in the entertainment industry in 2003 through the NBC Page Program. He spent over a decade at NBCUniversal, rising to become an executive at the company's studio arm, Universal Cable Productions (UCP).[1] It was in this capacity at UCP that he was one of the studio executives involved with the production of Caprica (2009-2010). His focus on genre programming during this time was also highlighted by his involvement in the Syfy original movie Red Faction: Origins (2011).[2]
In a significant career pivot in 2014, Lieber left his executive post to gain hands-on production experience, serving as a Co-Executive Producer on the Syfy series Dominion, which filmed in South Africa.[1] This experience directly preceded his move to Marvel Television in 2015. At Marvel, he was a key creative executive and producer for their groundbreaking slate of streaming series, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Defenders for Netflix.[3]
In 2021, Lieber joined Amazon Studios as Head of Genre Series. In late 2023, following the integration with MGM, his role expanded, and he was promoted to Head of Scripted Series, UK, for Amazon MGM Studios. In this leadership position, he not only oversees all of Amazon's scripted development in the United Kingdom but also maintains oversight of major global franchises like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout.[4]
