Maya is a civilian within the Fleet who lost a baby sometime prior to the events of "Downloaded".
She was selected from a list made by Dr. Cottle as a possible adoptive parent for the child of Helo and the Caprica Boomer after President Roslin decided that the child could not be raised as a Cylon.
She was told that the child was the baby of a female Pegasus officer who needed to give up the child for political reasons. (Downloaded)
